FWIW I've learned that you can right-click on a clip and "edit info text" which gives you a small notepad like box to save notes per clip. It's still pretty cumbersome for longer clips, but it already exists, so thought I'd share.

That's what it was, Alex. Downloaded the latest update for Reaktor4 and now it works smoothly.
Was having trouble with Battery v.1 as well, so I had to upgrade to Battery2 and everything works perfectly now.

Downloaded the most recent beta and tested it out. Seemed to work fine for the 2 sets I opened with it. Still took quite a while to load initially, but it was much more stable.
