BTW - what makes you think it's Subotnick?

It's not listed on his biog and this page http://www.dinosaurgardens.com/archives/139 credits the soundtrack to Don Cherry and Archies keyboardist Ron Frangipane along with Jodorowsky

Subotnick is well known for using Buchla modular synths

Without breaking the bank you'll get close using some Plan B modular gear... take a look at Model 10, Model 13 and Model 15...

The best thing about even a small modular is how *open* everything is for use / misuse... e.g. I regularly use my envelopes as sound sources

It's quite dangerous though... once you start you just want to keep adding... I've got a pretty good 12u mixed euro system (AS, Doepfer, Plan B, Bananalogue ...

I'm not sure that I'd describe MaxMSP and PD as programming languages per se, due to their visual approach to patching. In that regard I think they're pretty easy to get your head around compared to the other languages mentioned and for Max there is a large user base, good forum and good ...

I don't think anybody has mentioned the increase in noise out the socket when you connect an external display... for me that's also a major PITA

Hi all

I posted this a while ago, and it's become very popular on the monome forum...

http://post.monome.org/comments.php?DiscussionID=224&page=1

BUT YOU DON'T NEED A MONOME...

It's got a built in interface and it's seen a bunch of updates recently so that you can set up customised notes ...

Miditron works okay, but you might also like to check out arduino...

An even cheaper option once you go down the maxmsp route is to open up the guts of a usb joystick...

Boiingg Monome/Max Patch (works great with Impulse)

Hi

Some of you (particularly those with monomes) may like to play with a Max patch I've put together that emulates Tenori-On Bounce Mode... minimum requirement is Max Runtime, no Monome required (but is supported!). Should play nicely on both Mac & PC.

You can pick it up here...
