I have this problem in Mavericks and I was able to fix it by uninstalling Max for Live.

besides, some of the limits imposed by the lite version are unclear. for example, when I load a second plugin in one channel, it tells me I can only load one plugin

but if I try to load a plugin in another MIDI channel, I can do it. I can't do it however, in another audio channel. really unclear ...

the features should be documented in the product package, and Live Lite tells you if you tra to do something that is not supported. we don't offer comparison on our webpage.
