Re: Why isn't MIDI control of tempo working?

Well, I got it working by setting the value range in the MIDI map browser. But no success doing it in the arrangment view, which according to page 229 in the Live 8 manual. Is it merely that the manual is mistaken?

Why isn't MIDI control of tempo working?

I'm doing something wrong, I assume. First I go to arrangement view, unfold master track, choose "mixer," choose "song tempo," set a range for max and min. Then I turn on MIDI map mode, set a CC for coarse tempo and it...changes the range from 20-999. No matter what values I set for max and min in ...

Re: New Mexico

Cool, man, definitely hit me up if you're going to head to Abq, I know lots of good people there.

What took you to Tucumcari? I always thought of Tucumcari as a place people grew up in and then moved out of, not moved TO. But I hope you're having a good time there. I pimp NM to anyone who'll listen ...

Re: New Mexico

If you're willing to head to Abq and are into EDM, I can probably hook you up with a few good people. I have a friend throwing a pretty sweet sounding dubstep party there in a couple of weeks. Sadly I'll be missing it (I live in CO) but it should be a good time.

How old are you/what kind of music ...

One addition to my previous message

I guess I should have said that I'm not entirely wedded to the idea of using the actual guitar amp. If it simplified things radically I'd be willing to use an amp sim. But what's the point in having a really nice tube amp (in my case, a Rivera Suprema 55) if you don't use it?

Guitar looping setup advice?

I'm starting to get into looping my guitar with Live. I've been just messing around in my home studio, but I'm trying to put together a set-up that would work live. (BTW, I have done searches in the forums and found lots of useful stuff, but not quite the advice I'm looking for.)

Equipment I ...

A lot of people are recommending 20th century composers, which is cool, and by all means take a stab at the composers people are recommending (esp. Bartok, in my opinion) but you may find 20th century music a little inaccessible to start with--it's often very abstract, and even when it's not it ...

I recently asked a similar question on this forum http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=30645
regarding Live vs Traktor as a DJ tool. I've since decided to go the Live route because I love the flexibility, the possibility of really blurring the line between DJing and Live PA. The only ...

Just gonna throw in my $.02. I got fitted for these some years ago and I'll never ever ever go back. Besides protecting my hearing, for me they actually make loud music sound better because they keep my ears from getting stressed. If you are at all concerned about protecting your hearing, buy a pair ...

I'm replying particularly to Al3x.

I don't have nearly your experience with Linux. I've played with it quite a bit, but for all my day-to-day tasks I use OS X and WinXP (yes, I use both). From what I can tell, your assessment that it would be premature for Ableton to port to Linux is accurate.

Computo,
Regarding the maturity of computer music: Considering that our statements were almost opposite of each other, I think the difference is mostly semantic. You are right: compared to what will be happening in computer music in, say, 20 years, the field is in its infancy. However, I am also ...

Most of my music work is done on Windows, but I have an old g3 iBook that I use for almost everything else. I use it to play with OS X-only audio apps from time to time. I played around with Numerology into Live one time, and so I guess I did know what IAC was, I just didn't know what it was called ...

Conductor, how would you do it on the fly?

The best method I've been able to think up would be to set up a new audio track and record a loop from one of the playing tracks, then use a volume envelope to turn off the sound and drag the start and end markers to make it the right length spacer. But is ...

Thanks to everyone who's replied so far.

To Leonard: No, the programs I mentioned in my post topic weren't the only ones I'd consider. I've been curious about Pd and Supercollider. I've done a little work with Csound in the past when I was trying to learn the fundamentals of synthesis.

What is IAC ...
