I used to own an Allen & Heath Xone 3D. It came with it's own Live template. The best part of it was the looping MIDI assignments. It had the corresponding knobs on the mixer as well. I am trying to set up the same type of ability with my other MIDI controllers. I have a pantload of controllers so I will list them and if anyone could advise me as to which one to use that would be great!!! I want to be able to jump around the track, cut the loop length in half, set the loop markers, etc. (all of which can be done with the Xone 3D template)
Thanks!!!!
Akai APC40
Evolution UC33e
Trigger Finger
I was thinking of using the APC40 as usual and using the Trigger Fingers knobs and pads to mess around with loops on a separate channel.
Does anyone have the template overlays that originally came with the UC33e? I want to make my own from a pdf image of one of the originals instead of putting labels all over the face of it.
Thanks again!!!

Re: Need Help Assigning MIDI controllers to Loop Function!!!!
What about your Xone 4D? Can you use that? Can I use it if you cant? lol
Anyway Im not sure about cutting the loop a la NI Trackor Style but any button or knob can be mapped to the Loop on/off function the loop set and loop position.
Not sure about the overlays
There are also tricks using dummy clips to set the loop length. I'm sure I could figure it out but I never used them. The smallest you can do it 1 bar. Id use the beat repeat after that cause it'll do one bar down to like 256th notes.
If you really need more help learning to MIDI map buttons to your controls I can help you with that too but its alot of typing and a pretty easy lesson in Ableton's Lessons. Oh and then there is a Manual too, it'll explain it there as well.
Sound like you've got a fun set up. I'll give you private lessons if you want em. Anything for a Xone 4D.
Hope you dont mind my humor. Im not trying to be dick, it just comes natural. lol
Let me know what you think.

Re: Need Help Assigning MIDI controllers to Loop Function!!!!
I love the humor!!! Just to be clear, I HAD a Xone 3D. I sold it cuz I was broke. I would consider myself an advanced Live user, but I've only DJ'd with it a handful of times. The one thing I have trouble figuring out is the looping MIDI assignments. I can never get it to do what I want it to do. With the Xone 3D, I could get the loop length down to 1/32 of a beat, similar to the Beat Repeat effect. Who knows - maybe Ableton took away some of the looping abilities when Beat Repeat was released. Kinda how there is no Global Swing anymore because of the Groove Pool which I think is a pain to deal with. Do you think I should use the APC40 as a master control surface or turn on remote and assign all of the controls? I love the APC40 but I think that not having control of 2 channels at a time like a DJ mixer is a huge oversight. I would have bought the Vestax VCM600 but I don't know who would buy an $800 MIDI controller.
Let's come up with a cool set-up using the 3 controllers I mentioned. I am spinning at a pre-party for the U2 concert at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA in a couple weeks. I want to see as much of Live's GUI as I can so I am going to bring my 30" Apple monitor.
Any suggestions? Maybe assign the Trigger Finger pads to different loop lengths or the dummy clips trick you mentioned. Then maybe just use the UC33e for each channels FX or my bus FX.
Does anybody know anyone that has ever used the nudge buttons in Live? It nudges to the Global Quantize setting, right? So who ever puts the setting so short that you could even use the nudge buttons effectively? Kinda defeats the purpose of Live's warping abilities.....

Re: Need Help Assigning MIDI controllers to Loop Function!!!!
just realized that I listed a Xone 4D in my equipment list. OOPS!!! It was a 3D and I don't have it anymore. Alextronica, I just listened to your tracks....Pretty awesome. Go to soundcloud and search TB323 and tell me what you think....Thanks
