Where to find MIDI mapping reference for Live 8.0.5

Post by Vertigo Blonde » Thu Oct 15, 2009 5:13 pm

Hi All :)

This post is M-audio Axiom 61 related.

1. In all the 3 presets (18,19,20) the rotary encoders are UP SIDE DOWN (or TOP SIDE BOTTOM depend only on you)
i.e rotary encoder 1 on the keyboard is position Bottom Most Left while on Live it move Macro Controller 1 which is Top Most Left which visually confusing (especially to blonds lol)

2. Global Channel 1 control the mixer & Transport & Global Channel 16 control the Instruments & Devices how ever it is on the same preset (Number 20) how can I do that ???
I'm interested because it can give me 16 sub-preset (1 per midi channel) for each of the 20 presets possible = Total 320 presets option... cool...
I use the Enigma software to make the presets.

3. I would like to use the 8 Pads to control the active zone control on some VST (Predator) I.e Pad 1 will route all the rotary encoders to OSC1 control Pad 2 to control OSC2 etc like it was done on the Impulse who can I do that please ?

4. Where to find MIDI mapping reference for Live 8.0.5 ???
i.e what midi command on what midi channel Live need, THIS SHOULD BE PART OF THE PRODUCT PDF MANUAL...
where can I find this Info ?

Tnx in advance for any help you can give on this subject.

Open Lives help view, scroll to the bottom and click Control Surface Reference Lesson, click Axiom, follow the lesson at the bottom.
Live doesn't have a default midi mapping, each (supported) controller has a custom mapping defined for it.

This post might help.

No need to shout, email [email protected] if you really want them to respond.

Tnx for the educational "DO" remark ;)
I'll change it to whisper & will even add a very big brick from the waling wall in Jerusalem as a brick wall limiter...

The idea of the forum is that other people will benefit from the solution as well.
From past experience I know that Ableton support are doing a nice good job if you call or email them directly... This ain't the case here.

Re-read my post & this time put some attention to it & I'm sure that you will immediately understand that I already know all there is to know about those presets & lessons.

As far as my Axion knows that little tricky pad is not into any fetish stuff & only know how to deliver a simple midi message... Guess what?
Live get that midi info & by her good nature change the control bank...

Now I don't really care if that is Blond Magic or just conspiracy I want to know how to do that TOO...

I think ableton has some serious MIDI issues and how it controls devices.. REALLY, THE DEFAULT MAPPING THING. WTF!!!

seriously gonna make me open up a buried text file and alter the code,,, BUT THEN IT DOESN'T EVEN WORK WHEN YOU DO IT.. LOL... YEAH, AND WHY IN THE FREAK IS THIS NOT IN THE MANUAL.. HONESTLY, THE ONLY REASON I BOUGHT ABLETON WAS BECAUSE, AT THAT TIME, IT WAS THE ONLY SOFTWARE THAT HAD A GOOD TRACK RECORD OF NOT CRASHING. I think ABLETON needs to take a step back and look at things from a perspective that MAKES SENSE and stop selling crappy sample banks and devices.... YOU NEED TO WORK ON THE CORE OF THE SYSTEM.. Do I have to push you along the whole way Robert & team?

sheeezz.
Why the lack of support for a simple device like the BCR2000. Do you realize how impossible it is to get this thing to talk to ableton bi-directionally? I should have to spend 2 years trying to get one device to work properly.

I think I would have had less head aches buying a c++ book and writing my own DAW.
I would hope that someone from the Ableton team puts out these fires and atleast points me to a third party solution to program MIDI on a logical level...

The default midi control maps for ableton are dog poop.

I have an Axiom 61, and tried to work all of this out to begin with, it's up on the M-Audio site, but frankley my leaving statement to all those trying to get the Axiom to make the tea is...

Don't bother youself..

The encoders are not slick enough for filtering and delay whizbang shananigans. so it's best toleave that for something else like for me an Akai LPD8 which sits exactly over the drum pads, and helps in this regards. others like the nocturn, yeah that's cheap..

The keyboard is very good at master volume control, track control over volume, and on dark winter nights when you want't to flip through presets on a synth, snap shot and preset control.

Everything else is dark matter and will leave you spat out on an strange planet with a very dodgy looking moon orbiting it and no one else but youself around...I've been there it's boring.

Lives Great, Cheer up and seriously if your like me, next time maybe spend the extra and get the new flashy Axiom Pro, may even get a bargin on e-bay sometime who knows.

Thumbs up mate, but Leave it,, Leave it,,,,!!! Step away from the midi controller....
