Just upgrade the OS and Safari. Why do you refuse to do this?

At some point every OS and software is going to need the latest update to take advantage of new features and to run more smoothly.

you're surely right, beats me, but I decided to stick with os 10.5.6 after several threads/posts saying 10.5.7 or 10.5.8 kind of added some strange weirdness (don't really remember what... fan hyperactivity, airport bugs, live crashes...)

and I don't like iTunes 9 new "structure".

==> gonna get back to iTunes 7.

thanks for the multiple links mates :D

ps: I don't use the library as a mp3 container, but I've got a lot of playlists that I'd like to keep, is there any workaround to delete/re-install wile keeping the playlists and the library structure?

I agree the new iTunes store and navigation are ass ugly and I'm really surprised since Apple is usually known for making elegant interfaces. The new interface reminds me of amazon meets myspace.

I'm hoping they are moving towards an interface that will have video previews of apps instead of just stills.

But I'm also wondering by going back to 7 if some functions won't work, like you'll get "you need to upgrade to 9 to...."popups, Will be interesting to find out.

I like it much better. I will never install itunes on my PC.
installing iTunes on your PC involves way too much "management"
you have the asshole app telling you what you can't do with your tracks
you have all the other fucking software you don't need to play music installed and set to run at startup.
in can all be disabled, but damn - via the OS!
I think that in the last decade I can honestly say that I had to have quicktime maybe 3 times. why would i need to wait for it to startup with the rest of my computer? oh and why isn't there an easy option to stop it from doing so?
iPhone iMac iPod

the i isn't an i at all... its a penis that apple likes to shove up your ass while they laugh at the pigeon hole we actually pay to get in to.

^^^ yea, itunes is way too intrusive for what it does. Plus it always takes over my computer for about 30 seconds after I close it, and it takes a long time to load and I don't like their overall model of propriety and copyright management. Whereas Songbird loads and closes quickly, has the same kind of Library organization, plus it can automatically pull up bio and lyrics for every track, as well as keep track of when any given artist is on tour, etc. All of which itunes could easily do if Apple wanted it, but they'd rather try to control everything.

No thanks, you can keep your iLife, I've got my own.

Just install the OS update and get it over with.

10.5.6 is no more stable than any other version.

I haven't heard of songbird, but it sounds like we're on the same page so I'll check it out.

I used to have Music Match Jukebox. I got it in 2000 and paid 50 bucks for lifetime upgrades. It was awesome. It did all the things you listed above. All was great within my music library until a mandatory update one day about 2 years ago when it switched to Yahoo Jukebox... it went from shinola to shit in the time it takes for an app to install. It even looked lame after they were done. Yahoo needs to stick with what they do best - suck. They ruined my jukebox.

iTunes has always annoyed me. The first thing that got me was queuing up music. With Music Match I would double click a song... it starts to play. I double click another song and it will play after the one playing is done and the same for each track I double click. iTunes starts playing the fucking song!!! WTF? I don't wanna go through a bunch of menus and make a playlist I just want to queue queue queue and groove.

go to the View menu and set iTunes to show the column browser on the top, instead of on the side (the new stoopid default), and you will get your old tri-column browser back...

cool, that's better. Just have to find the option named "disable color wheel and useless stuff"

genius... when I first saw what genius was and what intrusion it was... freaky.

yes maybe... what about the threads about the bugs (airport, fan hyperactivity...) that appeared in 10.5.7&8? I'll think about it, but reinstalling itunes 7 seems better for me, for now.

yes I saw that, it seems ok. thanks for the links

When switching to mac I first hated iTunes (no queuing, need to manage a "virtual library" like a second layer upon the existing real folders/ or importing/considating the whole folders in the iTunes library folders, its automatic organisation... etc.)

then I passed some times organising everything myself and finally really liked iTunes. I also like using iTunes playlists with Traktor.

thanks to everyone

cheers
