I was blown away by the depth of this record. It's definitely "challenging" but I think Third is one of the best records of the decade. Just my opinion obviously, it's not for everyone but maybe some people who don't like this record pretty much listen to pop music. In other words, music of whatever genre that is popular because it's desperate to be. If my music listening were to get weirder and weirder as I get older, I would see that as a good thing. Earlier comments like, "where are the tunes" show an expectation that music should fit our expectations, which would be a narrow acceptance of music as art. It's like asking "why don't Radiohead make music like The Bends anymore?" Cos they already did.

I was one of the biggest Portishead fans of all-time.
Then Third came out.
Now I don't really listen to them at all.
It's boring, lackluster, full of nothing inspiring and nothing with any groove whatsoever.
Utterly disappointing.
