TC Electronic Konetkt or M-audio Profire - Vote now!

Post by demian_r » Thu Oct 15, 2009 7:07 pm

Hey everyone,

My audio interface has just died completely and am going to be buying a new one, likely today. I'm down to either the TC Electronic Konekt 24D or the M-audio Profire 610.

Both seem to do everything i want (have 2 preamps decent for recording guitar and vocals, an extra line input for my virus rack, midi to communicate with the virus rack and SPDIF to connect up to my Lexicon MPX500) Just wondering what people on here suggest!

Thanks for your input!

TC Electronic, has a better sound, but sometimes you can get a problematic unit. For example: I had a Desktop Konnekt 6 that worked perfectly when it was bus powered, but when I attempted to feed it with any power supply, including the original one, it turned off just by plug-in the cable, even there was no current on that cable. Insane, right? Althought I spoked with the TC guys and they send me a brand new unit, that works perfectly for my gigs and as a stand-alone monitor controller at 96Khz at home. Besides the sound is a lot beter than any M-Audio soundcard, the downside is latency, wich is a little high than the average, but nothing to be worried about since it works pretty stable with low buffer settings. I'll recomend the TC defenitely.

Hi,

I have worked with both in the past: M-Audio has shit audio quality in and out, TC has shit drivers but sounds OK. So it depends if you favor audio quality or stability..

but

I say sell some stuff and get a real soundcard like the RME Fireface. Amazing quality, splendid preamps and rock-solid drivers. I've switched my studio to RME (Fireface 800) and never looked back. It does all you need and more.

On the road i still use my trusty old 828 (recent Motu stuff is crap, but you can get a used 828 for real cheap nowadays), it never failed me. I'm waiting for it to die on me so i can buy a Fireface400 for my live rig.. but i've been waiting for years now, the bitch is unkillable!

cheers

funny, you mention the 828 cause that's actually what died on me :P. It had always been rock solid stable (i owned it for more almost 8 years) until it got dropped on day and (understandably) it hasn't been the same since. Many people don't recomend MOTU stuff for live performance as often units have this problem of killing all audio and needing to be reset (obviously this would be a disaster in a live setting!)

Stability is pretty important to me as i do play Live and the last thing i want is for audio to cut out live on stage.
I think i'm gonna go with the TC Electronics, most people indicate that it has better sound. I'll work it for a few days and see how it holds up. I've heard a few people indicating driver issues with it. Can anyone tell me what these issues are?

i bought the TC Electronic unit and definitely there seem to be some issues with the drivers. It does sound great, maybe i'll play with it for a few more days before giving up on it. Any opinions on the Focusrite Saphire pro 24?
