Pre- listen is always warped

Post by underdog » Fri Jan 03, 2003 8:26 pm

When I audition (pre-listen) to clips they do not play at their original tempo. Instead they are "warped". I can’t seem to find any parameters or preferences that address this and there is no correlation to the tempo of the project. In fact, I’m pretty sure the amount of warping varies from clip to clip.

I’ve installed LIVE 2 on both my G3 laptop running OS 9.2.2 and my G4 laptop running OS 10.2. The symptoms appear to be the same for both computers.

I did a quick search on the forum and didn’t find much. This can’t be the way you’re supposed to audition clips is it?

Also, launch time for LIVE on the G3 is extremely long – about 40 seconds. (About 8 seconds in OSX). I don’t recall it being this long in version 1.5. And the memory allocation in OS 9 shows up at 107000 k – while the preferred & suggested size is set to 87917 k

Is any one else experiencing any of this?

Thanks!

UD

Wait a second:

pre-listening a sample in the browser plays the sample as if it had been dragged into a Set, which I guess is pretty close to the idea of pre-listening.

The Warp/Loop Defaults Preference lets you choose how you want Live to interpret samples it hasn't seen before. This setting applies to both samples dragged-in, and pre-listening. To always pre-listen unwarped, set it to unwarped.

Try to change the Tempo in STOP Mode and then prelisten any sample!
It doesn't follow the Tempo... You have to re-START or double click STOP
to get the prelistened sample follow the new tempo. Double STOP does
only work when position is more than 0.0.0 before changing the tempo. If
the position in the arrangement was 0.0.0 before changing the tempo the
prelisten-tempo doesn't follow the tempochange - at least not as long you
do not restart the arrangement.

The idea with a dedicated button for prelistening with the original tempo
is the only solution when one needs the warp-default mode active but wants
to listen to the original sample with the original tempo...

Hi Manfred,

the first issue (Pre_listen doesn't follow the tempo if Live's not playing) is a known bug. You know, you already sent me an email about it -:)

<The idea with a dedicated button for prelistening with the original tempo

You're right if you want to have this functionality. What Gerhard wanted to show is also with the current version of Live it is possible to prelisten samples unwarped related to the Warp/Loop Defaults Preference settings.

I aggree that it could be nice to decide seperately about warped or not but I'm not sure about the user interface for that. Luckily for me it's work for the ableton spec group and not for me -:)

Alex

In the browser's Desktop-Bar aside the Prelisten/Up/Down button there
would be a nice place for a Prelisten-Unmodified button...

...or what about using the left-mouse-button for warped-prelisten and the
right-mouse-button for unwarped-prelisten... :-)

...whichever way, you are right and it should, and will, be in there.
