mdb - if anyone needs to get over themselves it's you. Talk about a tunnel visioned fanboy ! I present some alternative opinions, something to discuss and you can't do it in a civil, honorable way. You might want to ask Santa Claus for a sense of humour for Christmas, because you're attempts at humour are as funny as sticking needles in your eyeball.
Neb - it was mainly the FF800 interface which was affected, but RME have now fixed this, although you have to do tweaks in control panel.
Some things not working with Windows 7 (or even Vista 64) are UAD-2 cards (on quad core machines), SSL Duende (We are working on it. The work is not yet complete. Been burned too many times to announce something before we are happy with it. The release won't be next week... but it is on the roadmap, official response at Gearslutz from SSL), TC Powercore (similar message as SSL) - Many pro or semi pro studios rely heavily on DSP processing such as these - Plenty of complaints about M-Audio products too, although they only just released Vista 64 bit stuff and some is still in beta.
When Live is released as a 64 bit app, most of you using external plugins are likely to be running it in 32 bit mode anyway for a good while. Most win 7 or vista 64 users of Sonar, Cubase and Reaper are running the 32 bit app because it performs well (better than in 32 bit environment) and because numerous plugins which are all coded 32 bit, refuse to co-operate, even with bit bridges.
I'm not saying W7 won't be a better o/s than XP at all, just saying that you can't expect everything to work when the relevant drivers are not released and the product isn't officially supported. No more, no less, so fanboys should chill.

I'm no fanboy of anything except the Lolcatz cheezburger site, so i'll drop my two dimes: W7 32bit on a Q6600 quadcore with Uad-2 quad (all plugs) fully working with a Rme fireface UC.
Some crackles at low latency but that's all and the live-mode on the Uad can be peacefully used.
Live 9 Suite, audio trackles (several audio tracks that crackle)

Re: Windows 7
Good information. It's the 64 bit version of Win 7 (and Vista 64) with UAD-2 and quadcore which is supposedly giving problems with UAD-2.

Re: Windows 7
Pretty much dead on if you ask me. In regards to a mission critical / workstation machine (I consider my laptop both) I demand stability and jumping ship to a new OS is never a good idea regardless of how many stability anecdotes you've read. Professionally I'm tech support for a local publishing company and the biggest head ache calls we're getting right now are from early Snow Leopard adopters. Suffice to say if your system is working now...why change? "if it ain't broke don't fix it" as my father used to say.Pasha wrote:Although many people already used the RTM version with success together with Live, I would hold for a while.
The main reason is that AFAIK there's no certified compatibility about Live 8.0.5 just like it is with Snow Leopard.
It may work but only when it's official it works for me.
I know about gear lust or OS lust, I've been there already... and I had to regret.

In this case, it's low risk and insane reward.jsg4z wrote:no risk no reward right?

results!
well at least an initial report. windows 7 installed on my laptop with no issues. network and sound were flawless. graphics required an nvidia driver download. finger print reader simply didnt install but im not that sad about it. I like this way better than vista, and it looks way better than XP. its not annoying like vista. next test is live8. thanks to all who gave advice.

Re: Windows 7
Easy way to find out if you're going to like Win7 is to identify your current hardware and hit up the manufacturer's sites. Look for vista 32 and 64 bit drivers. If they've written that code then you have a really good chance of it working flawlessly in Win7. If not, you'll be disappointed when you find out you'll need newer / different hardware.
something I've noticed is that if you run multiple Win7 boot drives in the same box they DO NOT like to play well together. I've blown up two Win7 OS installs so far by running a second instance. However drilling down to the real problem it seems it's the graphics drivers that blow up (which is really weird but I don't put it past those Nvidia doofs to screw that up)

That's apparently great advice. I tried to install win7 on a desktop and the sound doesn't work. Web search reveals the manufacturer hasn't finished the driver...the waiting game begins. welcome to the land of the real.
