Pretty Lights-Passing by Behind Your Eyes

So does anybody know any background on this guy? The Internet seems to feel he just magically appeared. Surely with the music he produces he didn't just buy his first MPC 2 years ago and started geeking out.

Yeah my buddies all saw Big Gigantic at Rothbury and said it was awesome, and The Motet is pretty rediculous too. Missed the Abbey Pub show, hopefully they play at portage theater next time around it always get's a little sketchy up in there but that's how I like it.

As for his background, i'm pretty sure he's been playin bass since high school and messin' around with electronic music for something like 10 years he said.

He's from colorado and has been producing for a long ass time... pretty sure hes an engineer to boot... i remember when i was living in montana like four years ago maybe even five this kid i knew who rhymed had met up with some colorado kids and one of them flipped him a cd of beats to pick from... it was a pretty lights beat cd from when it was a two man operation... i remember thinking the shit was pretty cool but too synthy for me... i was super into producing straight boom bap style shit mpc only at the time... but i still have the disc... the kid who left it at my spot had said that the kid either worked at or had a really sick studio and was doing alot of shit with local mc's...

fast forward to last febuary i was talking to a promoter friend of mine who sent me the download link to filling up the city skies promising that this dude would be selling out 2000 persons within six months... like two weeks later i saw him play an opening set for soundtribe here in chicago at the congress... thats where i realized it was the same dude...

so basically he was a regular kid from colorado who worked really really hard at what he did for a long ass time... finally tuned up his sound and released a album which happened to get heard by the right people who put him up on big shows and people were feeling what he was doing...

basically an awesome story where hard work and persistence actually paid someone back... i mean shit is crazy that in missoula montana some kid who rapped handed me a cd of spacey beats telling me he was rapping on a couple and a couple years later the same kid is about to come to the fucking park west theater in chicago and rock a sold out crazy ass party of a show with NO RAPPER!

My friend used to have parties in the mountains and they would play once in a while, really really late, long parties. A lot of the attending people go to a lot of shows around here, and word of mouth spread even faster. This is in Boulder, I'm sure it was pretty similar up in the Fort where he's from.

I have a friend that lives in boulder, he's from Chicago like me.. He talks it up sooooo much, I mean I'm sure CO is as crazy as people say but he acts like if its not in CO it's not even str8 and it PISSES ME OFF! We'll be like "ya dude Pretty Lights and Dark Party killed it at Park West a few months ago" and then it's like 'here he goes again' : "mehhh when I was at boulder I saw pretty lights at a house party blah blah blah that's where his real environment is like, you haven't seen pretty lights unless you've seen him at a house party in boulder blah blah blah"

Silly rich kids, fail out of school every semester yet there parents will send them off to community college in CO just so they can party and get fucked up every night and then brag about it to us..

Not talking about everyone of course (and i'm not knockin on you at all, so don't get me wrong), I'm just venting about this kid and how much cooler he is than all of us cause he saw PL at a house party freshman year before the dude got big.
