Windows 7
Re: Windows 7
One workaround that I did back before I had a Win7 audio driver...
Download the Vista SP1 driver. Right-click on the installer, select Properties, select Compatibility, and run it as Vista SP1. Also, you can Run As Administrator just in case.
Might work in the meantime!'

yeah, i've also noticed that some installation that don't work would work if you run them as administrator.Rattmouth wrote:One workaround that I did back before I had a Win7 audio driver...

i have Windows 7 64 bit for a month now on the laptop that used to have Vista. it's a big difference. computer is much faster (i use all 4 gigs of ram now), smarter organized (new toolbar is great), i have integrated graphic card, but Aero works so smoothly... Live's running great with Motu Ultralite II...
oh, i love new walpapers and themes...
the only bummer i have is that Guru VST is not showing up at all in Live's browser. and Art's Acoustic reverb is crashing Live. those two i use a lot when i produce music, so i'll wait a bit longer to install Win 7 on my desktop.
and yeah, it's really hard to go back to XP after spending a couple of weeks with Win 7.

Re: Windows 7
you dont happen to know how it should work with Fireface 800? (MSI laptop)abletoff wrote:leedsquietman wrote:
Some things not working with Windows 7 (or even Vista 64) are UAD-2 cards (on quad core machines)
I'm not saying W7 won't be a better o/s than XP at all, just saying that you can't expect everything to work when the relevant drivers are not released and the product isn't officially supported. No more, no less, so fanboys should chill.
I'm no fanboy of anything except the Lolcatz cheezburger site, so i'll drop my two dimes: W7 32bit on a Q6600 quadcore with Uad-2 quad (all plugs) fully working with a Rme fireface UC.
Some crackles at low latency but that's all and the live-mode on the Uad can be peacefully used.
Re: Windows 7
Arts Acoustic put out an update for the first time in like 3 years a few months ago. That update crashed Live consistently. A week later, they put out another update which fixed everything. Go get the latest download from the update email they sent you, and you should be good to go.WebSite! wrote:Art's Acoustic reverb is crashing Live.
I've had no crashes, and AA does not have issues with Win7. It's my main reverb and I use it in every project.
Re: Windows 7
Just FYI - I'm running a UAD-2 on an i7 Core Extreme machine running Vista-64 Business w/no problems. That's not to say that there wouldn't be issues with Win 7-64. But, it seems more than likely that if the card is running on Vista 64, then it should be fine on Win 7-64.leedsquietman wrote:Good information. It's the 64 bit version of Win 7 (and Vista 64) with UAD-2 and quadcore which is supposedly giving problems with UAD-2.
Re: Windows 7
^I'd say this is a very fair statement - if it runs in Vista 64, it'll likely run better in Win7x64.

Re: Windows 7
I'm upgrading my Vista desktops and Vista laptop to Win 7 64. My main DAW is staying with XP 32 for now. Once I know everything is working, including the UAD-2, I may update my XP machine. The only problem I have so far is the update itself. My version of Win 7 will not upgrade my Vista Ultimate. It does a fresh install so I have to reinstall my programs. I'll see if that messes with my Live installs. I have one on each of my laptops so the reinstall on the Win 7 laptop may be cause for contacting Ableton support.
The nice thing, even though I was forced to do a fresh install and will have to reinstall my programs, it set up a dual boot so I can still go back to Vista and run things.
I'm doing the same thing with my Mac's. I upgraded my laptop to SnowL but left my desktop alone.

^ what about your linux mainframe vs. your ubuntu asus lappie?
and then, what about your chrome nettop vs. your PS3?
And shortly afterward, how did it go with your Atari 2600 vs. Coleco Vision?

Never had an Atari, but a couple years ago I cleaned out the basement and finally got rid of the Amiga's and a C64.nebulae wrote:..., how did it go with your Atari 2600 ...

Re: Windows 7
so is there a particular edition that is better suited for audio?
it seems like ultimate includes a lot of language support that i dont really need but if there is some audio or DAW benefit then that's the way i'll go...

Re: Windows 7
Ultimate gives you a lot of bloatware and junk. Fortunately, most of it doesn't go into ram, so it only wastes hard drive space. The other versions have successively fewer "features" like Movie Maker and crap like that. I don't think any one is better or worse for audio. I'd get the second best one and not worry about how much disk space it was all taking.
