this should be easy(?) - exporting entire arrangement

So I have an entire section of a song (let's call it "beginning" for kicks) set up in arrangement view, complete with many automated parameters and many clips. Now I want to take over all that and insert it into the beginning of an entirely different ableton project and not lose all my automation, crossfades, etc.

I know I could just export the whole thing as an AIFF and plop it into a clip in my other project but then I lose the ability to make further tweaks.

Do I need to make sure the exact same plugins are set up on the same tracks for the automations to copy over correct or ????????

when you're in the second project, go into the browser, find the old project, open its hierarchy and drag in the track you want to duplicate. bam

well that transfers the clips in, and if you do it in arrangement view they are in the "right place" however it does not add them to the beginning of the second arrangement, nor does it copy over any of the send/return tracks nor the crossfades..... (?????)

basically I want to plop an entire arrangement in front of an entire another arrangement....like if you were doing a DJ set and you wanted to plop an entire set in front of another set in one arrangement and leave all your crossfades, low end filters, etc intact

drag the arrangement from set A into the browser and give it a good name.

Open set B. Drag set A from the browser into the arrangement of set B.


Should work.

(Can take eternity to fully load when the arrangements are big.)

How is that different from just dragging the ALS file in?

I can do that but it adds new tracks on top of the tracks I already have, rather than before, and does't copy over any of the automation on the master track (some effects and crossfades)

*Duplicate the original track within its own project. show automation lane for all automation on second track. delete clips. save. drag THAT into second track

*Dunno how to get master channel automation in. What you will have to do is set up an audio track where you do all your "master channel" processing and route all tracks in the project to that channel. then you can transfer automation from that into other projects, use dummy clips, etc.
