Digi001 vs. M-Audio Omni Studio...

If these are your only choices, then the Omni Studio is the only choice, as the Digi001 requires a PCI-card - which won't fit in the TiBook. You might be thinking about the Digi002, which looks like a Digital Mixer, but is also a FireWire audio interface. Sadly, I don't think it'll work with anything but the bundled ProTools software, as there are no ASIO drivers, AFAIK.
That being said, I'd never recommend M-Audio products to anybody; their Quattro caused me so much grief, I swapped it for an EMI 2/6. If you're looking for a multiple I/O solution to go with a TiBook - and you seem to be interested in microphone preamps as well - I'd suggest the MotU 828 or 896 for FireWire (which is far superiour to the Omni's USB connection). Both have 8 ins and 8 outs, but the 896 allows recording in 24bit/96KHz, which you may or may not prefer. The 828 has two mic preamps, the 896 eight. I think they're about the same price as the Digi001. I've not used either, but they've received excellent reviews.

Either would require a PCI slot - which the TIbook doesn't have...
You may be thinking of the Digi Mbox and M-Audio Duo USB interfaces - which are very similar in their features (stereo, bal/unbal, builtin preamp, sp/dif) and as far as my opinion goes, sound quality. The Duo features 24/96, while the 24/48 Mbox hardware has a sleeker finish, and I have seen both used successfully with Live.

you can get a pci card breakout box for the digi001. i forget the company name, but they're about $1000 so i would even consider it. go with the motu or a hammerfall.

I'll second that. I have had the WORST experieces with there incompetent and unattentive customer support when there products do not work as advertised. Its a shame they distribute such wonderful software.

I say go for a MOTU 828 if you are in that price range, but I'm pretty partial to MOTU since I use DP as my main sequencer...
