L8.0.8 recurring drop-out when playing set first time
L8.0.8 recurring drop-out when playing set first time
L8.0.8 / OS X 10.6.1
Occasionally I get a very noticeable audio drop out (maybe 0.5 seconds long) while my set is playing and I launch a clip in a currently non-playing track. It is not reproducible reliably, but has happened 2 or 3 times now and only appears to happen the first time I launch that clip. Maybe it's only the first time I use Live after powering up. Very hard to pinpoint under what conditions it happens.
Live's CPU indicator is only around 25% when this happens and am running the buffer at 449 samples which is plenty high enough for the Ultralite.

yes it canhappen sometimes.
the trick is push teh RAM button before start the clip (if its an audio clip)

Re: L8.0.8 recurring drop-out when playing set first time
Cheers, but the set never used to do this.
I updated the Live version and OS X the same time, maybe one of those updates is at fault.

Re: L8.0.8 recurring drop-out when playing set first time
This already happened with Live 5 or 6, the first time a greedy vsti like absynth for example played in a set.

Re: L8.0.8 recurring drop-out when playing set first time
Sure, but it didn't happen on 8.0.5 + 10.5.8 with exactly the same set. Set contains no big VSTs.
Re: L8.0.8 recurring drop-out when playing set first time
im on vista32 and im having the same prob. the exact live set going thru 8.05 doesnt drop out, 8.08 will drop, drag and chirp its way thru the set. worse still if in arangement view and using the scroll/follow button. instant and annoying glitches.
Re: L8.0.8 recurring drop-out when playing set first time
you know i reopened 8.08 after writing this and it hasnt happened again...weird. moon phase maybe? lol
Re: L8.0.8 recurring drop-out when playing set first time
And... once again at the end of my set, a clear evil drop-out from a set that used to play perfectly on 8.0.5/10.5.8.
Re: L8.0.8 recurring drop-out when playing set first time
Bump... anyone from support that can help with this? or things I can try out?
Since installing L8.0.8 on OSX 10.6.1, I've repaired permissions, removed the preferences file, reset the buffer value to a higher value. I haven't changed the RAM and since moving from OS X 10.5.8 to 10.6.1, I've actually got more free space on the HD, but still I get a very audible drop out every now and again when launching a clip, which I never got in the same Live Sets on L8.0.5/OSX 10.5.8.

Re: L8.0.8 recurring drop-out when playing set first time
Maybe you should try and consolidate your Ableton library and related sample files? If something has happened in the OS update regarding path consistency, however far out I know it sounds, you could use the Library tools to do so.
Are the clips that fail Audio, Midi or does it happen to both?
Make a test of the set, by moving it to a different drive if possible, especially one with an adequate speed and connection and try running it from there?
If you have enough RAM available I would also try and load clips in RAM mode, but to the extent you keep close track of the amount used.
Can you reproduce it using a different set or is it the same?
Sounds ugly though!

Re: L8.0.8 recurring drop-out when playing set first time
Thanks, but that's the thing, it's not reproducible, but it happens at least once a day, and with different sets.
So far, it's only happened when launching audio clips and seems to be when that track containing the audio clip hasn't been playing anything for a while, while the other tracks have been playing. The audio drop out applies across all tracks/master track though.
By "consolidating the Ableton Library", you mean the "Repair Library" in the Live Preferences, or do you mean something else?
I'm not really keen to try the RAM mode option as a) it's not reproducible, so I'd have to RAM-mode all audio tracks to cover it, and b) it used to work fine without RAM mode (with L8.0.5/OS X 10.5.8 ).
It's on a MacBook Pro, so I don't have the option of switching drives.

Well another reason for me to hold out on SL!
I meant Repairing the library but again my advice were just what popped into my mind as I read your thread, so not of much use I guess! Neither is RAM mode considering you're previous experiences with that particular set... All I can give is Good Luck wishes i guess.

Cheers - well, I repaired the Library anyway, see if that makes any difference, I'll keep you posted...

Re: L8.0.8 recurring drop-out when playing set first time
I'm getting the exact same thing - not everytime but maybe 4 out 5 times.
Normally happens the first time I load up a set within the first 10 seconds of playback. Sometimes mid set when I change patterns.
These tracks were rock solid on Live 7.
Running XP SP3 and Live 8.0.8

Re: L8.0.8 recurring drop-out when playing set first time
I am getting intermident drop outs on audio clip launch as well, again normally on channels that havent been used in the set for a while, but the drop outs effect all channels. The CPU spikes for 0.5 second in silence then the audio returns
Am running OSX 10.6.1 and Live 8.0.8
Any body got any ideas?
