Solved: Pre-Purchase Question regarding Live 7 LE/ Live 8

Post by CloudsOfSound » Tue Oct 27, 2009 11:27 am

NO LONGER RELEVANT, BOUGHT LIVE 8. :P

Hi!

I'm a hobbyist musician, primarily looking for a good program to record my electric guitar, vocals and some acoustics.

Off course, I need to fill in drums, bass beats etc. using software, and mix down the whole enchilada.
I'm using a brand new MacBook Pro, and I've found Live responsive and not very resource intensive, after using an external SDHC Class 6 for tempfiles, an external USB drive for projects and the main 7200rpm disk for the application.

I've been toying around in Garageband and Sequel2, but both Live 7 LE and Live 8 is a level up i guess?
I'm totally new to recording software, and want to know if Live is the right package to use for these kind of recording, versus others out there. I'm a student, so I get great prices on Live. But I have this prejudged feeling that Live is mostly for DJ's and live performers? Arrest me if I'm wrong.
:P
The thing is that I've invested some dollars in the so-called "Jam Packs" for GarageBand/Logic, and I'm wondering if these are possible to use with Live? If not, I must consider Logic Express, as this is like the natural "level-up" from Garageband...

One more thing: Is the "Drum Machine" plugin compatible with the LE version of Live 7? Or to put it like this:

Is it possible to use "Drum Rack" with Live 7 LE?

Help is appreciated. There is too much software out there.
