"neutrality" - pretty inappropriate handle, based on your reaction to some helpful advice....
might I suggest "prat" instead?

Your initial response seemed curt, obvious and unhelpful so I gathered your intent was to be patronizing.UKRuss wrote:Actually, I think you did misunderstand.
If it wasn't, then I misunderstood, but I don't think you could blame me.
Your other suggestions are far more helpful. Thank you. Lets shake hands.

Hand duly shook.

The-what-and-the-when-now!!!!!..... I didn't write that, and never would!!! I guess it's a little quote mistake, as nothing could ever get me to reply to a topic on the interweb like that!!!Neutrality wrote:I understood your advice perfectly well the first time, and I see it has not changed.Furland wrote:here's my advice:

I will NEVER forgive you Furland!
OK, just this time only
(yes a little quote machine mistake I expect)
Gee this thread is getting a bit hairy isn't it? It's hilarious!
It's taken my mind right off the automation problem.
What next then...
Are you picking a fight necho? Lets go! dork!

Oh and thanks UKRuss. *shakes hand back*
Re: Quick question I can't find an answer to
I'm not sure this solution is completely ideal, but it might work for you:
There are two cases.
(1) The control you intend to use while recording does not already have automation recorded for it. In that case, you can just let Live record the automation, and then delete it when you're done: Right-click the control and select "Delete automation."
(2) The control you intend to use while recording already has automation recorded for it. In that case, change the value of the control before you start recording. That will turn on the red "return to arrangement" button (if it is not already on) and disable automation recording for that control until you go back to the arrangement.

I've been misquoted!Neutrality wrote:+1crumhorn wrote:A definite option to disable Automation recording While enabling Audio recording would actually be a good candidate for the feature wishlist!
Automation read/write/off buttons. Tried and tested for over 30 years. Come on!
(and I still say record you audio in session view)

Yes I misquote people on purpose to create excitement. Works a treat!
ark, interesting suggestion with the tweak before record thing, I will try that.
Now, I must go get some music done.

Re: Quick question I can't find an answer to
Imo, continuous or permanent recording of automation is not a bad thing, it is a good thing. Live is about live music, so you are changing everything live, if you do not like it, then change it so it sounds better, anything you change is recorded and is never lost. This is a good thing. If you do not want any parameter changes, then you should not change any parameter values. If you want to make parameter changes for experimenting purposes, so do not enable recording, disable it again by pressing F9. It is not selectively possible to activate or deactivate automation recording, which is a good thing, just forget the workflow in other crappy DAW's, Live is great. What is so bad if you go crazy and everything is recorded, then do not go crazy, just record your simple audio or midi, you do not want the craziness results anyway in your arrangement.Furland wrote:However, when Record is on, all tweak automations are still recorded despite which track is armed! So arming is not relative to automation just input being midi or audio.
A definite option to disable Automation recording While enabling Audio recording would actually be a good candidate for the feature wishlist!
Re: Quick question I can't find an answer to
There's one tip that was mentioned here that may have drowned a bit in all the excitation:
If you record your audio into a session slot instead of directly into arrangement, you can fuck around with other parameters
all you like. When you're done recording, simply drag or copy the new clip into arrangement.

Re: Quick question I can't find an answer to
Yes, and there is no excuse now, but someone might write now "but I want to record into the arrangement view", why, because the crappy stone-age style working Cubase did it also this way.sporkles wrote:There's one tip that was mentioned here that may have drowned a bit in all the excitation:
