Remixing with mono files

I am beginning work on a remix project and have been sent LEFT and RIGHT mono files for each part. For some of the parts (especially vocals) I want to merge the left and right files into a single stereo file for ease of editing.

I use Adobe Audition as my wav editor but could not find an option to merge 2 mono files into a stereo.

I'm sure there is an option there somewhere! Can anyone help or recommend a free software that could perform this task?
