OK I 'm hoping I'm doing something stupid here, but I can't get Live to respond to punch in and out?
I'm trying to print a four bar baseline from Reactor onto an audio track. I have punch in and out buttons activated, but Live continues to record past the end. It sets the locators to the right length after recording, but it records well past the setting in the loop?
Is this normal behavior?
4.1
Dual Gig mac.
Punch in and out don't seem to work?

Hi Machinesworking,
Punch on/out is only related to the clip creation and not to the physically record audio file.
Here is a statement from my teammate Stefan, who responded to a similar question some weeks before:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
a track records audio (or MIDI) into the arrangement whenever
its arm button and global record are active. In case of
punch-in/out clip creation is separated from recording.
Why? Typically one uses punching to replace a certain
part of a recording. If the replacement audio does not
match the punch-in points 100% exactly (which is typically
the case with a human performer), you need the surrounding
material in order to adjust the transition point after
recording.
If you need a sample which exactly fits into its clip, use
the Consolidate command.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
regards,
Alex

Thanks Alex, the manual kind of makes it seem like the punch in and out buttons are so you do not record more than what is selected in the loop menu, it had me confused a bit.
I probably irrationally assume that Live will be happier with perfectly cut clips, I couldn't imagine that to be true if Live itself records clips with a little extra data?
