Guitar question...

Post by H20nly » Sat Oct 31, 2009 7:44 pm

Anyone here using, played or heard a Yamaha Eterna electric acoustic?

My mom is coming to visit and bringing me one of my dad's (R.I.P.) guitars. He was my step dad so his son (deservingly) got the Takamine...

TBH as much as I would have liked the Takamine it didn't have any electric pickups so this guitar is more suited to recording straight into Live without having to fiddle with my setup at all.

Anyway... I'm just wondering if anyone has anything positive or negative to say regarding that model.

I just got the Yamaha APX-5A electric-acoustic guitar.... I don't know how different it is from the Eterna but it sounds and plays beautiful.

Most of Yamaha's guitars sound good and usually sound more expensive than their pricepoint, although things such as maintenance obviously makes a lot of difference.

I wouldn't mind it, I'm using an old lower end 30 year old Yamaha dreadnought body 'folk' guitar, which has had some abuse over the years. It doesn't sound too bad though miced up, but it's not in the same league as a Taylor or Guild or whatever :)

thanks guys...

I was hoping to hear that. I'm not a guitar player. I play the bass a little. I used to like Yamaha's basses but thats a whole other league than acoustic.

I just talked to mom again. She said that when my dad didn't play the Takamine this was his go to guitar. He had several guitars over the years. My mom has at least 4 of them right now.

I'm pretty excited about this though. I have a lot of tracks that have some guitar in them and plan to have many more... Always the same guy playing and he brings over an acoustic, but we have to mic it. We have used a Dean Markley acoustic pickup but that thing is not exactly what I'd call high end gear and it actually sounds better to mic it. I'm looking forward to this being a thing of the past.

Mom says the guitar is in great shape and when she pulled it out of the case it was still in tune. :D very positive sign!
