no, it's the attitude you grow when other people don't agree with your statements..
mind you; you asked a question;
Am i right to suggest that the current transient system is incomplete?
so accept the replies..

dna598 wrote:If you must interfere, just give me a +1, otherwise take a long walk.
so I can post in yer little threads as long as I agree with you? :lol:

the problem is you need a lot of false accusations, assumptions and implying of non existent stuff just to ask;
"Recycle lets me audition slices, I want Live to do that as well..".
if that is your style, then fine, but expect to be argued..

ok bye bye!

its ok that clearly you have no need for it, Just dont tell me what i can and cant complain about and where and when.
Just cos you have no idea what i am talking about and are unable to take on board some of the finer points.. Thats gay. I have IMPLIED nothing about people suggesting the prob doesnt exist. I Have STATED that, as its a fact.

as long as you don't tell people they cannot disagree with you and then grow an attitude..
I have been reading some of your posts in other threads and see that you run into arguments with people pretty fast..
who's to blaim you think? :wink:
dna598 wrote:I have IMPLIED nothing about people suggesting the prob doesnt exist. I Have STATED that, as its a fact.
you implied a lot of stuff mate.. such as its all Ableton's fault you cannot use Live as you can with Recycle..
do I have to bring in the quotes or can we just agree on this one?

I'm not arguing the usefulness of auditioning transients, not at all, I'm arguing the stupid (<I said it again) fingerpointing..
as I said; you could've asked just this simple question; I want to be able to audition transients..

Ok man. I am to blame for getting pissed off at rubbish replies.For that I hold my hands up. In this and other threads. I am really trying my best to explain the fundamentals of why I think this is so essential.I feel like I am not being met with any researched replies.But some have convinced me otherwise, which is great.

Whoever doesnt care really doesnt need to post anyway.It does no good.

I guess if finding a workflow flaw and reporting back is "finger pointing" then what am I to do?

If anyone feels the same i urge you to respond in order to persuade them to add a proper slice scrub/audition. Its seems criminal not being able to choose what you want to hear when it comes to slicing.
Still using Live 4 here... What's the issue?

What are you? some kind of comedian? why would you want to de-rail my thread even though you seem to admit you are not a "SAMPLIST"? ARent we all samplists?

I shall try to ignore the haters till someone sensible like Eloheim gets back to me.

I dont know how many of you release stuff, but from where am coming from i dont want to mess about RESLICING transients i have missed due to the current system. So i have to still use recycle to slice, but i CHOOSE to seqence in LIVE.I dont have to!

I want Live to be my ONE prog of choice. Whats wrong with that you haters?
you totally got my post wrong friend next time read it backwards, poster got it. btw I'm not a samplist I'm the samplist :wink:

Apologies then Starving Student, but it seems i am surrounded by people that do and dont care about all the wrong things concerning this. I guess you were just re-iterating this...

So with regard to your actual question (and my response that you have ignored thus far):
do you see what i mean about what happens when you turn quantise off (or on, it doesnt matter)?

yes it matters, but I'll be honest with you it's really a culture thing, you and I know that ableton looks like the greatest software sampler and is
so we expect a certain workflow but actually it was developed more out of folks comming out of synth culture who use sampling but not the same workflow you would think of as natural. what I've learned is that it goes both ways, we will miss some things that would seem obvious and also gain some things that are spectacular that we wouldn't have expected in a million years, personally imho the good out weighs the bad by an incalculable amount. You just have to be patient Abletons culture is growing all the time. would you believe they went the first 6 years without even having slicing in the program 8O , so give it some time there
is nobody better, but continue to make your wishes known.

I would like them to concentrate more on other things. Hell, I hardly ever warp audio let alone chop beats.

.rex support = use Recycle. the Abes thought about this and included .rex support.

I don't really get what Mr. Angrypants is talking about, I only used Recycle a few times a few years ago. I know the MPC, with that, while setting slice points you can hold down a pad and as you move the start marker the beginning of the slice plays. setting quantize to none and triggering the clip does nearly the same thing.

i support the op 100%
this has been an issue since the slice funcction was implemented.
it makes no sense to have a complex slicing system to go with a complex drum machine, and then leave out a pre-monitoring function. i understand op's frustration completely.

To the dna598

I own Recycle and I really haven't used it that much at all. I chop everything right inside Live. When I slice a beat, I never use the midi file that is generated. I usuall go into to the drum rack to fine tune the start and stop points of each slice, and then I'll end up making my own beat out of the newly chopped samples. If I wanted to loop a 1 or 2 bar breakbeat, I wouldn't even chop it. I'd leave it as one loop and just use Live's warp engine.

I understand what you want implemented, but what I'm trying to figure out is why is it killing your workflow?

Yea I looked into what you're saying DNA and I have to say I agree 100% to. And Since glamourboy already said it perfectly I think I'll use his above quote. You're right in that this makes no sense. The best you can do as far as auditioning the beginning of slices is to turn off quantization and click the scrub marker to start near the start of the slice. The bigger problem though is figuring out how the end of a slice will sound, no? As far as I can tell there's no way to audition this, because it always plays till the end of the clip/quantize value/loop etc. right? (Please tell me if this is what you're getting at.)

Peace

Interesting point about the roots of ableton and its "synth" heritage and culture.For me this simple omission and workflow problem prevents Live from being the utltimate sampler for ALL people,along with its other unique merits.I think that they have been busy perfecting their session view (almost, but with one big ommission we all know). This transient stuff isnt nipped in the bud yet.

couldnt have put it better myself.

@Tonedeft

I know you dont get it.

@ kb420
Thankyou for your question. I want to use that midifile you speak of. I wish to know exactly what to expect from it. It makes guesswork out of it by visually placing the markers without auditioning first.When i start layering i want to get rid of hits or whatever. I may have missed a hit on slicing, and i have to reslice the whole break.When you go in and start moving start/ends, the midifile gets fucked up anyway.Can get messy when all you want to do is layer tight and fast drum tracks. While working with ableton,I Dont like having to save rex files, or bother with recycle anymore.IT's so close its annoying. Thats all.

@ Dysanfel

to me warping is much worse than chopping!

Oh shit quickly, NIce one Eloheim for your research!!

Yes it is all of what you speak and would continue to find.
