Ableton keeps crashing after downloading and using new plugi
Hey everyone
I downloaded Native Instruments plugins and now it has begun to crash more and more regularly to the point where I can not even use Albeton anymore.
Im using my old faithful Mac which is three years old and does not have much grunt to it, so presuming that this is the problem. Is there a quick fix? I notice that whenever I active a plugin the CPU usage spikes to 100% and shortly thereafter crashes (and now it only needs to get to 20% cpu usage before it crashes).
Any advise? (that does not include suggestions for a new laptop).
Thanks
Lara xx

Hi Lara
Which Native Instruments plugins did you download and where did you download them from?

Downloaded Native Instruments Massive. A friend downloaded them for me yesterday, so not sure where he brought them from, presume from their site.

which version of live? has probably nothing to do with NI and is one of the ableton bugs ..
they have incompatibilitys to certain mac computers..but dont know which or cant say for sure if its incompatibilitys or just bugs that will be solved eventually one day..or not
add.. do you have a 2,16 ghz mac book?
Live 8.05 with switched off multiprocessor support was sofar working best for me..
8.08 was a big pain in the ass.. more old bugs and new ones in than things fixed... and still crashing but not as often..
8.09 i have it just downloaded and cant tell yet.. but seeing that ther is no changelog its probably still a mees.. but who knows... the hope dies last
mac book 2,16 ghz 4(3)gb ram, Os 10.62, fireface 400,

Massive should be fine, even on 10.6.1
The only thing that seems to be pretty important, is to run Massive Standalone before you use them as plug ins in any Host.
Cheers

Always, always, always use Time Machine, if you have an updated OS X that has it, to back up your drive to an external drive... Once you turn it on, it's automatic- you never have to do anything. I had a similar problem to yours that arose for me... common sense / technical / knowledgable solutions did not work (WTF?). I then decided to restore my drive to the previous days' backup. Now my MAC runs even smoother, and everything is 100% back to the way it was before.
