The Funktion-one PA is the best i've ever heard, and there's lots of very superb sound systems out there.

I've met the Designer Tony Andrews, he's a lovely guy and an absolute genius. I just wish I had a a spare £50k to spare on buying his speakers.

bull f***ing shit if you ask me.

the world makes me very angry sometimes.
yeah, put people out of their homes so you can use the space one night a week.

homes are more worthwhile than clubs.
They moved in next to the bar, not the other way around. I'm a little touchy about this personally as Broadway/Capital Hill district in Seattle has been gutted of cool record stores, clubs etc. in favor of condos. The yuppies move in to 'cool' neighborhoods for the vibe, and slowly eliminate everything interesting or unique about the neighborhood. Happens over and over again. If there was a legitimate housing shortage in Seattle sure, but there isn't.

Honestly it kind of made me ill to see the Mission turning into hipster/yuppie chic and becoming less hispanic, but that's life. :?
All bars are the same. You realize that right about the time when it ceases to matter. Chop Suey? Used to be The Breakroom and it was way gnarlier, and the Chop Suey fake chinese theme is racist and weak. And the sound SUCKS there. It's just a place. I live four blocks from Volunteer Park and it rules. I'm about to walk downtown. Those things will never change about Capitol Hill. Pretending this shit comes down to "hmm: cool record store OR condo" is naive. We know it doesn't work like that.

WTF?

I thought you lived in Middlesbrough? In a belly of junk by the river where your cabin stands? Dingy aerial sticking out the top; broadcasting Trance on your Pirate Radio station?

WTF?

OnT: Im on a japan tour right now, and the PA was shit on the first gig.. But the situation here was a bit different, because the people behind it are really nice and they are becoming friends as we speak.. Conclusion then is when time seem fit, we go on to teach, right? ;P Robert, from now on I would make a raider on your specific terms!

Bit drunk now here in Gifu atm.. Ottskareh! :P

Am I the only one thinking Funktion One is overrated? Sure they are loud as they are clear and certainly do look the coolest, but I almost always find them too dry and clinical and the bottom end 'stabby'... unlike the C7 and B2 setup that you put on your spec...

Not sure if you're the only one but there aren't that many of you.

Personally, I think bottom end should be stabby. Much better than floppy, indistinct and slow. If the bass doesn't hit you bang on the moment you're making a mockery of someone's music

Funktion one are consistently voted best sound system at many festivals up and down the country. One of the main rivals, Opus sound, have changed their tactics because of the F1 system and are now gearing themselves more towards theatre.

Is 'floppy, indistinct and slow' the alternative to being 'stabby' is it? :-D
How about 'warm' and 'rich'... qualities where Funktion One falls behind more than one of it's competitors (Opus not being one of them).
Not so long ago F1 was competing at the top of the game, trying to gain ground in the high-end commercial market (think BIG gigs), but has somewhat always fallen short, and quite similarly to Opus, 'changed their tactic' focusing on the clubbing and electronic music markets, stating that F1 gear is 'tailored for the club sound', a myth which has become increasingly hard to discredit given the amount of people taking F1's word for it as gospel (and all the clubs which now feature F1 as part of the line-up)...

Truth is... apart from Underworld and a few other (big-name) bands that always tour with a full F1 rig, most other big players (including the main stages at Glastonbury, Reading, V, Big Chill etc.) choose Meyer Sound, Logic System, and D&B instead of F1 rigs. Know why?... cause it ain't good enough.

So yes, there are definitely plenty others out there who share my views. You just don't come across them, but if you get out of the club scene and ask around, you will no doubt.

peace

^ maybe it's the setup of the F1. In Berghain, I do find it a very hard-edged sound. Bass very deep, clear and powerful, but quite... yeah... stabby... But if you say Underworld tour with F1s then I loved their sound and the bass was warm and rich and never too stabby... Set-up, maybe...

Yeah the sound is terrible there.. hurts my ears everytime.. I use the "toilet paper in ear because I forgot earplugs" method the most there.
