Remastering many files with the same settings
Remastering many files with the same settings
Occasionally when I download a live show (legal ones from places like archive.org), I want to remaster them for one reason or another. These shows come in split up sound files, one for each song.
It's easy enough to import them all to Live and then use whatever plugins to make them sound better. The hard part is then running each sound file through the plugin chain. I can click on each one and play it, hit render, then choose the length and the file name, but for 15-30 files, this is a lot of work.
Is there an easier way to do this? Is there some sort of scripting I can use? I'm a software engineer, so I'd have no trouble writing a script in whatever language is needed. If there's interest, I could even make it available for others too.

You need a batch processor like Wavelab or Sample Manager by Audiofile. YOu can set up workflows and processing with these, and then apply the same settings to a ton of files automatically. Well worth the money for this type of thing.

All I want to do is run some VST plugins that I already own over these though. Is there no way to do this without spending another $100+?

drop them all into 1 track in arrange view. apply the effects and export that whole run.
Re: Remastering many files with the same settings
But then how do I keep them all as separate files?
Re: Remastering many files with the same settings
no batch exporting...i think you have to do it the sloow way..

I actually found a great free program to do this called Wavosaur. It's a little rough around the edges, but you can load a file, send it through a VST chain in realtime to adjust things, and then run the batch processor over an entire directly. Works great!

Re: Remastering many files with the same settings
I have thought about doing this for practice. My buddy has a jam band that uses a simple ZOOM recorder to record their jams, and the stuff comes out sounding like it's underwater or something, mainly the hi-hats sound like poop.
Is Izotope Ozone good enough to run the tracks through? Or am I going to need a few other plugs, and Live devices.
I guess it depends on the sound of the tracks..

Izotope Ozone 4 is exactly what I'm using for this. The range of options is beyond my skill, but I've gotten some pretty good results out of it. I also recently bought Alloy, but have yet to try it.

Sounds good. I needed something to do "mastering" when all I have is a stereo audio file of the whole jam.
With my group, me and my buddy do ALL multi-track recordings cause we do looping, mixing and all that stuff LIVE so we pretty much have our work cut out for us when it comes down to doing some multi track recording.
My friends band on the other hand just has .wav's of real long jams and shows they've played. Not much I can do to bring out individual instruments other than feeding all the audio through something and EQing yada yada yada..
