Same trigger different sample?
Re: Same trigger different sample?
ok. no it works on one note but that not switch cycles in "sequence". my suggestion is to try that example from youtube presentation. it works different, more creative way.

only watched the first half originally, i see how its different, my example was for the OP since that is what the original question wasaeon_flux wrote:ok. no it works on one note but that not switch cycles in "sequence". my suggestion is to try that example from youtube presentation. it works different, more creative way.
now i am going to figure it out without rerouting midi, which can cause issues in large sets
Re: Same trigger different sample?
i was not aware of that. could you tell me more what kind of problems?zalo wrote:aeon_flux wrote: now i am going to figure it out without rerouting midi, which can cause issues in large sets
Re: Same trigger different sample?
i have a large set with a lot of midi mappings, 160+aeon_flux wrote:i was not aware of that. could you tell me more what kind of problems?
when you have a lot of connections and a lot mappings you are constantly avoiding midi loops, which can crash live
also 8.0.5+ has midi dumping issues, every midi action sends a full dump to every out port

Another tip that can help you get started in this direction using the drum rack is to watch this youtube video:

Re: Same trigger different sample?
I have a new question.
How do I set things so that when I trigger a sample it plays out from start to finish in "one touch" similar to the setting on a MPC?
Because right now I hit my trigger and as soon as my finger leaves the pad the sample stops.

N/m I found this in another topic...
To set up Sampler to trigger one-shot samples go to the Filter/Global tab and select Trigger from the envelope's Loop drop-down menu. Next, open up the decay parameter to 60 seconds.

Re: Same trigger different sample?
awesome, and i learned something new today!
now i can break repetition without changing anything of the track layout. still put repetitive hihats or snares in the midiclip, but let the actual operator-patches change, creating variety.
awesome! thanks

Re: Same trigger different sample?
Beware, Simpler has a trigger mode mut even with decay at max it will still fade out the end of a long sample.

Re: Same trigger different sample?
Okay, now I have a new question that needs solving. Lets try to break this one:
So in the beginning of this thread we figured out how to trigger multiple samples from the same trigger but how can we trigger different phrases using the same set of samples.
For example...
In one of my songs I have a string section that plays out the same everytime during the chorus except on the last chorus it ends a differently.
Like this:
(*A & B= CHORDS)
Chorus 1= A,B,A,B
but Chorus 2= A,B,A,C
NOW WITHOUT CREATING A DIFFERENT TRIGGER FOR THE SECOND CHORUS LINE, HOW CAN WE MAKE IT SO THAT ABLETON KNOWS TO CHANGE THE PATTERN OF THE SAMPLES AFTER THE FIRST RUN OF SAMPLES?
$10 MILLION TO THE FIRST ONE THAT CRACKS IT. JK

Re: Same trigger different sample?
This entire thread has been very educational. Thank you Zalo.
zalo wrote:everyone is making this too complicated
put a random midi effect set to 100%, alt and add
set the number of choices to the number of samples you want to scroll through
hit the pad, it now scrolls through

Re: Same trigger different sample?
Well hold on a minute here. Im not sure if you understood fully, or I need to explain it in another way. Or I need an answer not in a screen shot form.
Lets say I hit one "pad" and the pad triggers out a total of 3 samples A,B, and C. The first time I hit this pad I want it to cycle in this order: A,B,A,B and the next time I come back to it, say the next chorus later, I want it to cycle A,B,A,C. Like a "smart-sampler" if you will. One that understands that the second time I run the trigger it knows to sub out the 4 sequence with the 3rd sample.
Get it?
