L8.0.9 - smaller install please?

Post by 8O » Thu Nov 05, 2009 9:42 am

I don't own the Suite, just standard Live 8, but look at this:

Live 8.0.8 - Default Packages folder - 160 MB (only consisting of Live8Lessons_v8.4.alp)

Live 8.0.9 - Default Packages folder - 543 MB (all of the full boxed suite alps that I did not purchase and cannot use)

I can go in and delete the packs manually, but it would be great in future to get a slim install, just for the stuff I've purchased.

Yes.. its a totally waste of bandwith and time for all the users that dont like to work with presets..
Live is on the way to become the new magix music maker..
And on the user side..how uncool is it to work with presets?
Anybody really need them? isnt creativity in music production not allready on a historical lowpoint?

And please change the installer that the user can prevent all the crap from beeing installed... it feels like beeing raped all the time.. and seeing that many more updates will be necessary up to th time live 8 works stable...

 This is NOT my point. I use the presets all the time as a starting point for creating something new. Just there's lots of stuff on there relating to instruments that I have not purchased, that's all. I think it was fine in 8.0.8.

I feel like that too. I think they should rather polish their actual presets than keep adding tons of them, some of them are quite mediocre. If you compare their presets to those of a sampler like EMU VX, they definetly suck.

Or take the latin percussion samples. They´ve mounted about 200 samples into each rack, and sometimes they even put a whole drumrack filled into another drum rack. That doesnt make any sense and is not playable at all, it totally slows down the whole project.

The drum kits arent so good either, many of them contain lives reverb as a return, which sounds kinda cheap, and well, to me the samples itself are not very well put together. The volume levels are not well matched, and again, comparing it to a sampler like EMU, they´re crap me thinks.

Or take the Operator preset 8 Ball dribble bass, when you hit it with a bit more of velocity it clips. They should really stop shelling out presets, its a jungle and each time it gets harder to find what you actually need.
