MIDI from a pioneer DJM 700 crashes live 8.0.4

i've been using an mpd32 to control the crossfader in ableton but i wanted to try to get my midi from the djm talking to live so i can use that crossfader instead. because well...it's a REAL crossfader. anyway... one touch of the crossfader on the mixer crashes live. anybody else experience anything like this? any midi msg from the djm 700 crashes live. would this be a problem with my audio interface or the inability for live to handle the midi msgs from the djm?
