nonome = monome emulator for launchpad
nonome = monome emulator for launchpad
I just posted a monome emulator for the Launchpad over at the monome forums for those of you who are interested. You'll need Max 5 (or the free runtime version) in order to use it. Let me know how it works for you.

Re: nonome = monome emulator for launchpad
VERY COOL!
been playing with this all day as soon as the Launchpads came in...
it is a little buggy to get it running (ie had to close and restart ableton and reset the unit a number of times to get it working with DJ64)
DJ64 works a dream once its running except its flashing pads keep flashing when you change away from the user 2 mode
also Step64 runs very glitchy the step sequencer progress bar jumping all over the place (still works, could be a midi routing thing on my end)
MLR runs amazingly
haven't tried any other apps yet but well done!!!
just saw you updated to 1.5 ... time to keep playing

Re: nonome = monome emulator for launchpad
I've never used Max before, but was curious about your app. For someone like me, who's never used Max before, where should I even begin? I downloaded nonome, got my runtime of Max5, opened nonome. And.........
Now what?
I get the sense there's great things awaiting me but where does one even begin that has no Max experience? Curious to try the Step64 but haven't a fucking clue as to what I'm doing.

yes please more details! ive downloaded both but im lost now. im am most definitely new to this
Re: nonome = monome emulator for launchpad
Glad people are enjoying it
It can definitely be confusing at first but here are the comments that I just sent to pandanoir -
The best thing to do is to:
1. Download the Max 5 runtime from Cycling '74.
2. Make sure your Launchpad is connected before opening the Max runtime environment.
3. Open both patches _nonome-launchpad1.06.maxpat and _mlr.mxb
4. Click on the help button on mlr. That should give you a basic rundown of how everything works.
5. Tap the user2 button (on the launchpad) twice to make sure that you have a connection. You'll be able to tell if there is a proper connection because the learn, view, and page buttons will light up in 4 colors (green, red, amber, yellow).
The most important thing to remember is that you have to push the little "dac" button in order for mlr to start! It's one of the least intuitive "on" switches I've ever seen. Also, keep in mind that the top row (just under the round buttons) is for turning tracks off and switching to the other modes.
Also, poke around the thread on the monome forums that I linked to in the first post. Don't bother messing with the early versions, just go straight for 1.06 and look at each revision's documentation (in the thread, not bundled with the patches). The problems that alex_musiclab mentioned have been mostly cleared up in 1.06.
Good luck!

Great, now I really got a reason to buy this controler
Big THANK YOU... and keep up the good work

Sure thingBig THANK YOU... and keep up the good work
Launchpad + nonome isn't perfect (what is?) but it is awesome especially when you consider how to make the monome do what the Launchpad does natively with Live. The session and mixer pages in control surface mode are absolutely excellent on their own and they require zero effort to set up!
Enjoy!
Re: nonome = monome emulator for launchpad
i got it working and now i just have to figure out everything else haha. thanks!!!

Re: nonome = monome emulator for launchpad
heh. Trying to get mlrV running, but it's a bit of a bear.
Problems with max5.0.8 runtime, so I had to find an old 5.0.7.

Re: nonome = monome emulator for launchpad
I'm actually running Max 5.0.7 too. It still seems more stable than 5.0.8 or the 5.1 beta.
I am running mlrV + nonome flawlessly right now. In fact, I really prefer mlrV to the older mlr build that I included with the nonome; it's way better in just about every way. Just make sure to choose the right "monome" in the lower right corner. The little icons above Trent Gill's name represent different size monomes and you'll want to choose the smaller square in the lower right if you're using the nonome or crazy things will happen

lol. Holy shit. I couldn't find that for the life of me and finally had to ask Sean in the thread over at monome.
Are you rewiring mlrV? Seems that's the way that it needs to go.

Re: nonome = monome emulator for launchpad
meh. Can't get mlrV to work properly. Out of rewire mode I can get a clock sync, but it's way off. The samples load, but can't get the thing to play them.
In rewire I can't get any clock sync at all, and the samples won't load. Grr.

Re: nonome = monome emulator for launchpad
Wow, I really wish I could help you with that. I have nonome + mlrV + Live (in control surface mode too) working just fine. There is some sort of magic way to get it all jiving but maybe if I tell you my order it will help:
1. Open Live
2. Open Max 5.0.7 (5.1 is tweaky and I don't know about 5.0.
3. Open nonome
4. Open mlrV
5. Click on the little monome selector button (bottom right, little square over Trent Gill's name)
6. Load up some samples or load a set
(optional step) - If you want to do EXACTLY what I usually do, click the "inner loop" button to On and change the tempo from 100 to something else - I doubt this makes a difference for your problem
7. Leave the output to built in, push the DAC button and just try playing - if this works, go on to the next step - otherwise, let me know and we'll work from there
8. Stop all the clips and turn the DAC off
9. Go look at your Live settings and see what buffer size you're using
10. Click the rewire button in mlrV and make sure the buffer size is the same as it is in Live (I actually have my mlrV buffer at 128 and my Live buffer at 256 but I guess it could be problematic if they aren't the same depending on how rewire deals with it)
11. Okay, now if Max hasn't crapped out and crashed, turn the DAC on
12. Go back to Live and make new audio tracks for as many tracks as you want to use from mlrV
13. In the track input section (underneath where it says "Audio From") change from "Ext. In" to "MaxMSP"
14. Right underneath that, change your input channels to "1/2: Max/MSP 1, MaxMSP 2" and change the monitoring mode to "In"
15. Repeat steps 13 and 14 for as many channels as you want, changing the input channels to 3/4, 5/6, etc.16. Now it is basically set up and you're ready to test it out but mlrV won't do anything if Live isn't playing so...
17. Hit play in Live
18. Press some buttons on the Launchpad/nonome
19. If you see and hear input from mlrV, change the tempo in Live and it should automatically change mlrV's tempo
20. If you've made it this far, it's time to start reading the manual for mlrV
Hopefully that works for you. If it doesn't, maybe it will help sort out where your problem is.
