M4L & step sequencing with APC or Launchpad?

Post by Acid303 » Thu Nov 05, 2009 12:49 am

Has anyone managed to get real step sequencing going in live with the APC or Launchpad? All i've wanted to for ages is to be able to step sequence impulse / drum rack with led feedback on a controller like launchpad (monome is too expensive for me) - can it be done now, is anyone doing it?

I really hope so!
Thanks

I was under the impression there was going to be a device or object at least that does this that comes with it. Maybe it will come later with the official release. I have plenty to learn by then though.
Computer: MacBook Pro (2.6 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 SDRAM)
OS: Mac OSX 10.13.4
Peripherals: Allen & Heath ZED-10FX, Push 2, VoiceLive Touch 2, Pioneer DJ DDJ-SX2, Abstrakt Instruments Avalon

So it's not here yet, even at this late beta stage?

step sequencing should be built into drum racks piano roll anyway.

especially with launchpad having these arrow buttons...

If I got it right - you can't make use of live's clips when using M4L step-seq. Correct me plz? (hopefully)

Yeah, this was one of the M4L features I was most interested in playing with. I am a total newb to Max, but so far I haven't seen any reference to the object that allows you to step-sequence with the APC-40. This has been one of the most advertised of the new features, so I'm feeling somewhat disappointed if this didn't make it into the Beta...

Anybody out there know what's up with this?

thanks for pointing out this plugin! i was in the process of making my own version until your post. This definitely saves a lot of time and headaches.

it's still a little buggy, but it works! I'm sure the final release of Max4Live will have this plugin sorted out.

Thank you. this plugin is the #1 reason why i wanted max4live (#2 is to act as a midi/sysex translator).

cheers,
-P

mmmhh, i get "midi_mme: error 4 opening midi input device USB Audio Device"
and "midi_mme: error 1 opening output device USB Audio Device"

any idea why the plugin seemingly can't communicate with the APC?

Mine doesn't give me any error messages, I just simply can't get it to function as a step sequencer. I used the 'CS Step Sequencing' tutorial set. I pressed the big green 'Step Seq Mode' button and chose the 'APC-40' script from the configuration page. Still nothing, APC behaves as normal.

I take it others are getting this to work without problem? Any hints you could give would be much appreciated!

Edit: Here's a screengrab, maybe someone can show me what I'm doing wrong here...

try these settings.

use button 8 in the device controller to activate the step sequencer (note the channel with the midi clip needs to be active)

Hey, thanks a lot for your assistance! I got it working, although it doesn't seem especially responsive. The button interaction seems to be somewhat sluggish... Still pretty cool, though!

I'm still trying to get my APC40 to work with the control surface device. I have the APC40 prefs set the same way as Joshua, but the pull-down menus don't work on the "Configure Control Surface" page. That is, my APC40 is automatically selected as the control surface, but it doesn't allow me to select controls for running light, matrix component, or matrix control. What am I doing wrong?

I would just keep trying them... I was experiencing like a latency or lag sometimes when I tried to use them, too. The whole thing seems a little buggy still, as was noted previously. Hope you get it working!

Patrick DSP - thanks for the screenshots.

I can get a moving light on my APC but not on the Launch Pad. I don't have a clue how to input notes or where to place a midi instrument to receive those notes.

why is there a spot to drop an instrument before the Step Sequencer? I do see the spot to place audio effects afterwards.

help?? ;?

thanks!
