LaunchPad not showing in Control Surface

Hi Guys,

I am currently running A8 and just got a novation launchpad. I have installed everything in the correct order however when I go to change the settings in live the launchpad is not an option for control surface, but is for both INPUT and OUTPUT dropdowns in the MIDI Sync tab. I have tried reinstalling and restarting etc etc but cannot solve the issue and was hoping someone knows what to do!

I already had Ableton 8 installed - I put the launchpad in and installed the drivers, then installed the ABleton 8 launchpad edition. Also when I am in ableton the launchpad does show a midi response in the top right hand corner when a pad is pressed.

I can only think something has got lost inbetween me already having Ab8 and installing the launchpad edition...however i have no idea what.

Any help much appreciated.

I just bought a Launchpad and I'm having the same problem. I think I need to update my version of Live 8 which I've only had a month (I bought a boxed version of Live and I've seen the Launchpad requires version 8.06 at least). I assume this version or later would have the Launchpad device listed on the drop down. It would be nice if they mentioned this somewhere on the product box. If you already have Live 8 I didn't see the point in installing the launchpad edition.

Also considering the product came with a disc, why couldn't they provide the proper update required that would add the Launchpad device to the drop down list in the preferences that would get loaded along with the drivers. It's very disappointing the products (more than just the Launchpad) that are on the market that don't provide what you need to get them up and running right out of the box. Now I'm searching for an internet connection faster than the slow wifi I'm currently tapped into in order to download the 656 mb update Ableton requires.

Hope your problems are solved. Mine aren't yet.

Are you running at least 8.0.8?

I wrote in earlier regarding having at least version 8.0.6 (I had 8.0). Anyway I just updated to 8.0.9 (the latest) and am happy to say that the Launchpad is now up and running. The Launchpad now appears in the drop downs in preferences control devices list and problem solved. The update must have added this device to the list.

It is a pain having to update (a 656 MB download no less) every time a new device comes on the market. I think the software in the box should have had this fix included with the drivers, instead of forcing an update. Now I have 2 versions of 8 sitting on my hard drive!

It seems like Ableton is forcing you to download the entire software package every time you make an update.

If you have Ableton Live 8 already their is no need to load Launchpad Edition. Just make sure your version is up to date. If your internet connection is as slow as mine don't forget to burn a copy to a disc in case you ever need to reinstall.

goto http://www.ableton.com/latest_versions download the newest version of live (currently 8.0.9) and install.

@ zebra: launchpad support started with 8.0.6. Was never available for download, but as it's the version on the CD that came in the launchpad box, they'd be pretty dumb not to have supported it by then.

btw. anyone know what 8.0.7 was on? another controler, next series of boxed live products...?
