Oh no shit, people want sync ?

Who'd have thought it. Certainly not the devs. Thank the lord for Peter Kirn and his revolutionary ideas.

Love Mark Kunoff's letter to Ableton that Peter posted in that article.

I feel strongly that Ableton has not addressed these issues sufficiently and could do a better job of educating their user base as to the challenges that face performers in achieving reliable sync.

lol.

The Ableton Live forum posts regarding sync are fraught with dissension and are excruciating to read to say the least.

lol. Though not as excrutiating as some of the comments from several Brainiacs that follow the main article. ffs. The only one that made any sense was the guy that said he solved his sync problems by selling all his shit. FTW!
I came for the
But stayed for the :x

Interesting, struggled this when doing a live laptop collaboration with 4 ppl a few years ago, but as long as we all had the same tempo and didn't step on respective instruments too much, we stayed in time pretty well.

I do think that this is something that should be looked into, and I'm glad Peter Kirn got behind it. I have had poor success syncing 2 laptops running Live, myself, on numerous occasions. I have had some successes, as well, but not enough to make me in any way confident in the process. This is by no means saying that it's Ableton's fault, but I should think if ever there were a group who COULD fix this problem the right way, it would be them! Besides, it is a Live performance application, so they probably have more people who actually want to sync it then other applications.

I have read the MIDI Fact Sheet and it is interesting and informative, but I still wish there was more 'real-life' info given. I want to know what Interface A, B, & C were, for instance..

Would love to hear a Rob Henke forum response to all of this!

Please Abes fix that sync issues, the slave computer tempo doesn't stop jittering.

i have used live since version one and i have NEVER been able to get it to sync either master or slave with any external equipment reliably.
I have posted this several times on this forum before : It seems hard to grasp that wheni used my Atari st and cubase i was able to sync up my 909 and 303 via a sync 24 converter and walk away and leave thenm all running in harmony for 6 hours and then comemback abdd THEy would not have bunched a thousand of an inch in timing. Totally Solid ! Never ever failed ! Whats happening ableton ?

:o

Incidently the only way i ver got outr laptos to sync together was to just match the tempos in the songs and nudge them closer if they were out at the begining of starting them both. IE no sync cable just manusal tempo matching. They never drift ! ? But with a midi sync they do.
! ?

Whast happening Ableton ! ?

people need to give proper bug reports!!! a few months ago I tried to get a bad sync between Live, my MPC and external synth and they wouldn't stop tracking each other, even through tempo changes. I imagine the people at Ableton also have some good working setups, they use the software too, they want this to work, they sure as hell know users complain about this. what they need to hear is where to look.

This looks interesting - Innerclock Systems Sync-Lock - http://www.innerclocksystems.com/

I'm not sure if it would be useful for inter-computer sync, but for those of you frustrated with syncing external gear this might just be the ticket!

Did you read the article? My understanding is that the alleged problem is that there is no easy to use, well-documented procedure for syncing multiple laptops with Live. How is a bug report going to correct this issue, which has been well-known for years?

Whether or not this is a serious enough issue to warrant hand-wringing is open to debate, but I don't see how a bug report is going to help.
