Ableton a Feature Wishlist area - Respect

Most DAW Companies don't have the guts to have a Feature Wishlist area. Actually I don't know of any other DAW company that has one. And users who start one are normally shot down and attacked etc So I can see Ableton actually listens to their users requests Like i said much RESPECT

I think Ableton has made great decisions on how to spend their time on developing features and fixes
espically in connection with workflow and the Ableton methodology.

i hear ya with respect, but there are certain requests that have been going on since 4(prolly earlier) that have gone
mostly unnoticed...the biggest on being the gui requests like dual monitor support...in this day and age where you can pick up
a second crappy flatscreen for cheap, there really is not much of an excuse for this.

At times software development can be a bit of a juggling act. Like when Ableton eventually added more than 128 parameter limit (being able to use parameters above 128) it took ages, You see when the program was first developed it wasn't primarily intended to be a dual monitor DAW system although in many ways it is a DAW in its own right today. I'm happy about that.

Ableton like all software developers will have x amount of requests and x amount of resources so to stay competitive and generate income they are faced with many tough decisions. Like should we spend money and man hours on implementing dual monitor support or extending the 128 parameter limit. One or two wrong decisions and the program suffers in more ways than one. Man hours = money. In other words every new feature or enhancement has a price tag attached to it. Unfortunately Santa and his elves don't take feature wishlist requests for music programs. I know I put it on my list. And got nothing in my stocking, and I even left the dude cookies.

I'm just using basic intelligence but you have to have the information to use your intelligence. I come from a business background. So I know how it works.

It's like this even the software development managers or team leaders who use Ableton may themselves want the same feature as you. And they are thinking oh I hope i can work on that this year. But something else is "more important", so he has to wait like the rest of us but in the end all decisions are weighed up and balanced so everyone can win. It may not seem like a win/win situation to everyone or even most people depending what feature they would like implemented or improved but that's the way it is.

For example I want comping read my post in the Feature Request section titled "And the No1 Feature request is ? "You guessed it" - I know how the process works so I'm not holding my breath or crossing my fingers but just letting my request and opinion be heard.

PS: A feature that may seem easy to implement, from a users point of view. May in actual fact be very difficult and costly. The opposite is also true. That's why many times one may wonder why have they implemented that when everyone and their dog wanted this. Well now you have the answer.

dual monitor should be easy
floating browser should be easier
midi grid improvements should be easiest

i agree about the juggling act, but these are features that could/should be addressed as updates.

since then ive seen:

more softsynths to pay for
EIC..which is useless for me
freebies to stuff which i paid for...

dont get me wrong i love live and will continue to use it(btw it took a longgggg time to implement the 128 parameters thing)

now that m4l is out, i hope they go back to making some more functional improvements even if they have to spend more time on it
