Help me build my "infinite granular delay return fx rack"
Hi,
I'm trying to make a return audio fx rack, so as to be able, while playing my live set, to make some "rise up transitions" (I don't know the english term to describe the parts of tracks where ther is no beat, and the synths, fx, etc, rise and rise and rise and rise...)
For now I have in the rack, in the order of signal processing:
-an autofilter to cut everything below 4-500 hz
-a granular delay (live's), with feedback at max (95%), pitch at 1,5 (slow pitch rise), sync delay (8)
-a simple compressor (live's) to help the delay's limited feedback not to get down too quickly
the problem is that the granular delay has a maximum 95% feedback, so the rise isn't infinite
I'd like to be able to send a track to this return, then stop the track, and then be able to have the FX rack outputting the rise as long as needed without having it's volume slowly getting down.
the compressor helps a bit,
I can also rise the return track's fader to help sustaining the rise, but there is still a limit.
using another delay could be an option, but the other delays don't have a pitch option
any idea?
cheers

enable the return track's sends and feed it back to itself.

wow, great idea.
I guess it has to be used sparsely so as to avoid to huge feedback!!
thanks for the idea

If you stick a saturator at the end of the chain and turn up the drive a little with soft clipping it will allow you to turn the send down (the send you are using to send the effect to itself) and smooth the sound out a little.
Can you post the rack up when you are done please, I would be interested to see the final results.
Thanks
Keith

no problem, I'll be happy to share it when it's done
thanks for your saturator advice, I'll try this.

choose a different delay or delays. you need a delay with a loop option. i do something similar. i use audio damages dubstation. just midimap the loop button and you're good to go. also don't stop the original track---the loop function will keep sampling the delay and will eventually clip...stop the track just before the delay clips and sounds awful. then map as many other parameters as you want. mess around with it. i have 7 parameters of it mapped, 1 macro-ed with an eq cutting more low end....ALSO NOTE: different manufacturers' delays crackle when changing the delay time while looping!!!!! AD's is clean and has a nice pitch transposition and no crackle... therefore i chose it.

What about just dropping Looper where you need it?
I came for the

compressor/limiter will take care of that, but you could also route the send to a track with the grain delay on it and a dummy clip automating the feedback amount which is then fed back to the send.monstrejumo wrote:wow, great idea.

Re: Help me build my "infinite granular delay return fx rack"
oooh guys,
so many useful ideas!!!!
thanks a lot for that
(looper : I'm on live 6 so there is no looper, but I have used mobius and it could do the job, but I had not though so far, I wanted a kind of "fx queue" to keep rising in pitch, not to be looping...)
I've already got some looping options in my live setup with beat repeats assigned to 3 switches + the trackpad of the padkontrol.
thanks for mentionning AD dubstation, I'll check it. In fact I wanted to make this rack with only live's devices, but I guess it could be really powerful with 3rd party apps. for the limiter, would you advice using L2 ?
thanks again
I'll keep you informed, but for now it's forest mushroom collecting time
cheers
