Anyone here used Nicecast for the Mac to broadcast a Live set?

Is there a way to use a server other than my studio's Mac to broadcast with? How can I maximize the number of listeners?

I think it's basically the Mac version of Shoutcast. I found out that you can broadcast to an external server like through Live365, but they are pricey - like $99 for 3 listeners. I'd like to see some way of getting like 100 + listener capability. I have a Linux server or two I could allocate to the task.

$99 for 3 listeners?!?!? The only thing I could see that possibly being useful for is if you are a great DJ but hating leaving the house so you just stream your set from your house to the club.

Yeah, I don't really get it. I mean if I could stream a live show to 1000+ or even like 100+ it would be cool. Might be fun to play around with though.

for streaming from your home location, you´ll need a digital communications link that supports the data transmission rates wich are demanded by the number of listeners. it´s simple math, no magic.

if you want to to be your stream 128 kBit/s and you would have 100 listeners at the same time, then you would need a link providing data transmission rates of 12.8 Mbps as a minimum.

i assume you don´t have a communications link providing a similar data transmisiion rate @ home. you should get a dedicated server in a data center of a provider which will run a server app for streaming your music. in such a case you would stream 1 x 128 kBit/s from your client (from home or from anywhere with an internet connection able to transmit more than 128 kBit/s to the internet) to the dedicated server running the server application. the dedicated server would distribute your stream to the listeners. both options do not make any sense unless you are a professional/commercial radio station, because this isn´t cheap.

you should be more realistic. there are zillions of webradios on the net. even some real radio stations don´t get 1000 or 100+ listeners via their web streams.

there are some dedicated streaming services on the net with various packages for streaming your stuff.

have a look here

http://www.live365.com/

or

http://www.listen2myradio.com/

these service will distribute your stream. www.listen2myradio.com does have a free service also. you´ll find pricing on their websites.
