It's because MPCs have the eq and compression turned on in the master by default. Go have a look.
Have a look at the specs on the MPC2000.
No effects unless you paid for the add on effects board.

I must have been thinking of the MPC1000 and MPC500 which were the last MPCs I owned.

Mine has REV, Mod, Distortion, Filter, and Echo I don't see any Compressors on here. Yeah I was looking at that board. There are a few goodies that I have been looking to add on to this tank.

If you have those effects that means you do have the effects board installed.
Does it have the 8 channel outs as well? If so then you definitely got a fair deal.

sounds like he did get the eb-16...........he came up pretty good then. If you want to save time look up the program builder at
www.midicase.com so you can do editiing on the computer, file spelling on the computer and just load it to the mpc and play away.
bang on

It didn't come with the 8 outs on the back but I saw one for $90 on Yahoo Auction. On MPCstuff they are like $200+
v00d00ppl: I use a mac so those programs don't work but I did get RS-16X so it does pretty much the same thing. I have a USB floppy thingy that works great(just loud as fuck). Just save the program file and load em on the MPC. Great times!

Awwwww man I want to but you can't install that on a regular 2k like you can an XL it is possible to do but you have to do some soldering. With the XL you can just clip it in where the floppy plugs in but the regular 2 k is a differnt story......sadly.

i used an mpc for pretty good while and made several records and prolly did about 300 live gigs with one. all the zip disks and everything [back in the day]. it never laid down and worked great.
but i gotta say, if i had one here, i can't imagine that i would hardly ever even turn it on really. even if it was free.
and if you don't know the OS, which is kinda it's own thing on that machine [ i don't know maybe you do] it takes some work to get the workflow together.
the pads are pretty biyatching however.
i also don't really have the space to keep stuff like that. if i'm dusting it, i sell it.
++++++++++++++++
to initialize harddrive, reboot, or strike any key

Honestly for me there is no real reason to have it
but it's fun as hell to play with and stupid easy to program!
I don't think there is anything complicated about using it.
It's a fun toy and I love fudging with it. Right now I'm in love with its simpIlcity!!!

I got it from SCSIFORSAMPLERS.com
MY Flash Card Reader isn't hot swappable. So the OS needs to be on the CF
They ship the flash card to you with the OS on it so it just takes about 3 - 5 seconds to boot up!

actual it uses the same screw holes that the floppy used so it's not going anywhere. It's just that the guy could quite fit it exactly right so there is a small gap in between the front plate and the housing
