Just had a weird idea. Think it's do-able?

Post by telecatster » Mon Nov 16, 2009 10:14 pm

I've been using ableton for a while now and have pretty much figured out most of it's possibilities in the realm of production. Lately I've been messing around with ideas for playing these songs live (i don't really want to press play and chill). So I just flashed on this idea for the apc 40/any unit with 8 faders and want to see if it would be possible.

Say I had a drum track playing back cut up into 8 different parts (say the clip is 1 bar cut into eight notes) . Is there any way to set the faders to control the volume of each individual cut while the entire clip continues to play? I've been thinking about it but can't really figure anything out, but i think this could be a cool way to glitch the drum track behind a song live.

Thanks for any ideas,
Rick

Interesting idea. Off the top of my head, each cut could be in its own clip, and each clip in its own track. Play them all at once and assign the faders to track volumes. I hope I'm understanding you correctly...

If you slice to 8th notes you will get the sounds on 8 sequential MIDI notes in a drum track. You can assign faders to the 8 chains. Is that what you had in mind?

Second post got exactly what i was trying to do.it's a little meticulous but not too bad. i added an effect rack with a bunch of different simple delays set to different repeats, as well. this works pretty well for glitching as i can cut out a section of the drum loop and then alter the next section with the delay. anyways thanks dudes.
