Windows 7 and plugin install problems

Post by ethios4 » Wed Nov 18, 2009 4:28 am

I was trying to authorize Ultra Analog on Windows 7 today and was not able to get it registered when authorizing. I figured out that turning off UAC (User Account Control) allowed for the authorization to write to the registry....problem solved! I'm going to turn it back on once plugins are re-installed.

Control Panel > User Accounts > Change User Account Control settings > Never Notify

Or run Live as Administrator. In the Start Menu, right click on Live -> Run as administrator. I needed to install a PSP audioware plugin and it said something about not being able to write to the registry when I tried to authorize. I tried running Live as administrator, and it worked. So Windows 7 has a pseudo sudo command now :)

Win7 is a lot more anal about users and access to file (a good thing if you ask me) The other day I went to save a Synth1 preset and I couldn't. It was as simple as making sure that I had permissions to access my Synth1 folder...

That's the part that confuses me....my user is set as administrator. And yet, sure enough, I can right click on Live and "Run as Administrator".....what the hell? Well, good to know about that....turning of UAC made me a bit uncomfortable.
