where's the music?

Post by tezza » Wed Mar 02, 2005 6:52 am

Hey there, I'm new to Live4 (sorta). I've been scouring the net trying to find websites where you can download other people's live sets. It's freakin hard to search for and I've come up with zip even after not a small efort.

Does anyone know of a website where poeple are sharing their sets?

I read the question as where are the Live sets, not the rendered mp3's.
The Post your music-thread has a lot of rendered things.
If I read the question right, I miss the Live set postings too.
Could be a problem when you are using external plugs etc, though.

[Edit: Funny, the lines above seem like verses out of The Iliad or something...]

I missed the Iliad connection in your text. Have you been smoking mother nature today? :D :D

No smoke, used good old Swedish snuff ("wet tobacco"?)
Irrelevant, but I though the form of the lines resembled the hexameter verses of ol' Homeros.
Unfortunately, the English translation by Butler does not seem to have kept the greek vers form (as Swedish translations have), so this will get more obscure than intended.
Skip. Let's make music. :)

I read an English translation by Fagles and was impressed with how it flowed and was not dry.
I don't know any Greek to say how it held up to translation. That's the great thing about music. I feel like I have a greater ability to judge an artist's rendition of another's work. For example, although I love the band Luna, they never should have covered Sweet Child of Mine.

Yes, suppose all posted music was in some sense in the musicians native tongue and could not be "read" by others... Hm, but to some extent that is the case if we think about main stream music, avantgarde electronica etc - there are something resembling languages in "styles", cultural codes etc.
Well. I don't "know" music and don't know greek. But translating Homeros without the hexameter rythm could be like stripping a score from the bars.
That said, it could even be better that way.
I should stop here but I just heard the term transcreation. That's maybe what a (good?) cover is at times.

Theres probably a few reasons for this.

1) size of files
2) different gear and plugins
3) piracy of original material
4) people cant be fucked :)

Those are all reasons I've considdered, but I was hoping that there would be enough people using live that there is so much stuff that some will seep through despite all the reasons mentioned.

Once I get busy with Live, I will post some stuff myself - however shitty. I'm not an artist first of all so I'm not worried about my reputation as a musician :D

Conny, you are correct, I was indeed interested in live sets I can screw around with and learn more about live and the techniques that others use. I'm not so much interested in music appreciation as such.

cache, I listened to your 80 minute set rendering. Very nice. You are obviously an accomplished DJ.

cheers.
