Hi,

Pressing the shift key makes the view of the pads change to represent 8x5 blocks of clips, think of it as zooming out.....

When you hold shift and press one of these pads it'll make the red box focus jump to the block of clips.....

Cheers

Ok, I get that... It works as expected.

But what makes me wonder are the red numbers 1 to 8 on the buttons under the device control knob section:

do they represent other "layers" of the controller? I thought I saw stray411 use them like that in his vids...

please comment on your findings!

[EDIT 1]

Ok, after a bit of trial-and-error, i figured out that they represent 8 layers for the device-control-knobs. The first layer is the default, controlling the first eight controls of the selected device. The other 7 layers can be assigned at will.

Unfortunately, those eight shift-layers only apply to that section, as opposed to the whole controller...

how could that be achieved?

Honestly....

With about a fortnights worth of work coding new midi messages in bomes or maybe waiting to see what max for live can do....

Can you be a bit more specific with what you want to achieve??

I want to use my APC a bit like the nativeKontrol apC series.

that is, additionally to the traditional behaviour, the surface can be switched to different modes, e.g. playing a drum rack or browsing the library and/or your disk.

They use Bome's MT to intercept the communication between the APC and live.
I have STEIM Junxion v.4, but cant seem to just intercept the midi...

Tried with Max aswell, also no luck...

Are there any tutorials out there concerning this issue?

*puzzled*

Did they actually reprogram all the functions of the apc in bome using the APC in simple MIDI mode? Or do they pass the original commands through somehow? just that doesnt seem to work either in junxion or in Max...

I'm propably missing something...

any more thoughts on how I could get started programing my own modes?

[EDIT - 00:46] Ok, I'm getting there.. at last... I managed to intercept the traffic between APC and live with Max.
I wonder where this will lead me... ;-)

[EDIT - 02:30] Hmm... I have had some success, but after a while, i get thrown out of the APC mode...

hey s4race,

sorry - long time no post....

i'm pretty much getting where i wanted to, i guess...

one thing to triple-check: set up a full-duplex midi through connection in Max and MAKE SURE you connect the right ins to the right outs!
(i tried and tried and never had any real success, because I messed up the ins and outs... *lol*)

i'm busy making a nice, fully customizable patch to be put in between live and the APC. As soon as i book some real progress, i will definitely post it here! Promised! :-)

greetz from berlin...

BTW, i looked into the sysex communication of the APC and live, and these are my findings:
To check for an APC40, live sends out the following sysex:

Live to APC40:

Code: Select all

00 F0 7E 00 06 01 F7
The APC answers it as follows:

APC40 to live:

Code: Select all

00 F0 7E 00 06 02 47 73 00 19 00 01 00 00 00 7F 7F
10 7F 7F 00 4B 02 00 09 00 07 00 02 03 08 00 03 00
20 02 08 F7
This is done a couple of times in a very short time frame.

Then, Live "asks" two things from the APC:

Live to APC40:

Code: Select all

first string:
00 F0 47 00 73 60 00 04 41 08 01 00 F7

second string:
00 F0 47 00 73 50 00 10 00 00 01 0C 07 0D 0F 06 00
10 00 04 0D 0A 0E 00 05 F7
...which is answered by the APC like this (in one string):

APC to live:

Code: Select all

00 F0 47 00 73 51 00 10 0A 07 00 0A 05 07 07 0B 01
10 07 07 02 01 08 08 0D F7
After that, they repeat the first handshake again.

Later on, some more sysex is being talked... can anyone post their findings and/or shed some light on this? I'm a total noob at sysex... but this can't be too difficult, right?

Has any progress been made on this?

I have not tried it yet, but I am trying to build an apc40 (grid only) emulation for the pc keyboard.
Must have the handshake down tho...

Have a look for Hanz_petrovs posts on control surfaces....

No idea if you can do it with a pc keyboard though, doubtful....
