Can i mix the M-audio Fast Track Ultra 8R from ableton?

Post by max-williams » Mon Nov 23, 2009 10:52 am

I play vdrums. In our set, i have some songs that use the sound module from the vdrums, and some songs where i use triggered sounds in Ableton. We use an M-Audio fast track ultra, which has it's own software mixing desk.

Currently this is set up so that the drumkit audio output goes into the fast track's hardware inputs 3&4, and the triggered drum sounds from ableton go into software inputs 3&4. These are mixed together, and all the drums go out on hardware outputs 3&4 (so that to whoever's mixing, all the drums look like they're coming from the same place).

When i play a song where there's only triggered drum samples, i have to turn the volume down on my vdrum kit. One of these days i'm going to forget to do this, or even worse, forget to turn the volume back up afterwards and start the next song with no drums at all. It's not ideal.

What would be *great* is if i could get ableton to tell the fast track to turn down (or mute) hardware inputs 3 & 4 for the duration of the song, then turn them up again after the song finishes.

Is this possible?

grateful for any advice, max

ps - i know that i could route all of the drum audio through ableton, and mute it in ableton for the song's duration, but this introduces a bit of latency to the drums and i'd rather not do it.
