Hello, I just got max4live and whenever I try to open the patch editor I get that error (I also get it if I launch the max executable directly). Apparently according to google there was a thread on cycling74 forums with someone having a similar error message but this thread doesn't seem to exist anymore, probably because they are migrating their forums, so I thought I'd ask here.
Apart from that the preset patchs seem to be working fine.
I'm running win7 x64.
max4live: can't open editor (Initialization Error Code: -7)
Re: max4live: can't open editor (Initialization Error Code: -7)
The cycling case you're referring to was resolved by uninstalling Comodo Anti Virus, but their first guess was a problem with the interlok stuff and they suggest the following:
1. From Add/Remove Programs, remove all instances of the InterLok driver.
2. Go to 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers' and delete tpkd.sys.
3. Clear Internet browser cache.
4. Download the latest x64 drivers from:
http://www.paceap.com/dldrvr.html
5. Install and reboot.
Please remember that in order to run Max5 you will need the following installed on your computer.
Quicktime - a full install is recommended
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/products/qt/
Java Runtime:
http://www.java.com/'
Keep us posted with the results!

Re: max4live: can't open editor (Initialization Error Code: -7)
Thanks a lot for the fast answer
After installing quicktime (I wasn't aware it was needed), and installing the driver from paceap (there was no entry in the uninstall list so I just deleted the tpkd.sys file before) I was still having the same error, so I uninstalled comodo firewall and it fixed it.
I guess now I have to go post about this compatibility issue on comodo forums and find another replacement firewall until they fix it. Just so I post relevant information there it is a problem with paceap's anti piracy system that is shipped with max if I understood well?
