i just got a musicthought from tone deft

"Cool" people stay around the edges and observe the mistakes and triumphs of uncool people (and then write about them).

i think it applies here

a Behringer BCR to the MPC
a Novation SL25 to the JX305

I left off the Edirol UA101's midi. I drove the 305 and the MPC with that, same result, no problem. the laptop is an HP DV8000. I guess it's a good chipset.

what's weird is the Apple people, even with overall stability with Live. identical hardware, same OS, largely the same software installed, totally different experiences.

I thought my little realtime vs rendered test was pretty decent but diskoasswipe wouldn't even argue anything real about it even though it directly contradicted said asswipe's main argument concerning Live.

I care mostly out of technical curiousity and because its annoying to see people using logical fallacies to make proofs.
Because I'm happy working in Live. I get good results and I don't hear it sounding fundamentally different than other digital software mixers. For me, as others have noted, it's down to the skill of the engineer and the quality of what goes into it - not what comes out of it.

In other words, I'm not interested in performing shoot-outs and technical tests to convince anybody else.

If you are, that's great. And I agree that it's probably the only way to settle the ongoing argument from a scientific point of view.
Oh, I didn't mean you, sorry. I was referring to diskowipe not posting evidence. I totally agree with you about Live ...happy with it and agree it's about mixing skills.

yes. we have to do that from time to time.
that way the developers have to work on it again and finally have the money to buy their poor kids new shoes for christmas,
from all those hours working overtime.
I used to mix on analog and actually miss it - because it gated the sound a sample or two early or late.
Analog summing always sounds better than digital summing. Check out Black Lion Audio's new summing mixer, awesome.

That's because of headroom!!!!

I think the Abes should release their own in depth tutorial on how to get the most out of your Ableton Live mix. A short little video with a raw mix that they polish up into a finished piece of work. Mixing can be done in Live, I just think that some find it easier in other programs.

diskowipe - or should that be asswipe :?:

You come in here shouting the odds and digging out your quotes from nowhere, well I could post many, many more threads from people and producers and engineers who feel totally the opposite.

So you call me a moron, I call you asswipe. I have 25 years recording experience and many of the other people in this thread who you are dissing have forgotten more about Ableton Live than you will ever know. Numpty.

People diss Live more because it's an unusual looking DAW than for any other good logical reason. In a blind test, he probably wouldn't be able to tell which DAW rendered an audio file if I gave him a selection of Live, DP and Logic, especially if it ran to multiple audio clips.
Are you a moron?

this is always the problem, people assume something completely irrationally. here you say "often because of gossip and what they heard elsewhere"

the guy fucking said the program sounded a certain way. deal with it. he has an opinion, not because he heard it from one of his drinking buddies. he hears the software and he spoke an opinion, stop speculating just cause you dont want to believe it

this is the same thing with the Ricardo interview. he must have meant this, he must have meant this, he must have meant that.

he said ableton sounds "ok" just fucking deal with it and stop trying to justify to yourself that any of them mean anything different from what they plainly said just to make yourself feel better
Don't call Leeds a moron. Bad form. He's offering his opinion on the topic, not calling you an "asswipe", that was somebody else :)

I don't think this is a Mac PC thing at all, that's either a matter of personal preference or furiously defending what you happen to have bought at the time. This actually matters, a great deal. Not sure if it's true or not, but it matters. However, you notice almost all of these pros (yes they are highly skilled professionals with an enviable depth of experience and knowledge) use Live, they just prefer to mix down in another DAW. This is notably common. I'll say it again, sometimes where there's smoke there's fire. On the other hand, Henke gives a take on why DAW's sound different; how they handle automation. Another theory is this handling of plugins thing. From what I've been told it cannot be the summing engine, though that is often cited. It's not Mac/PC. It matters, unless of course it's placebo then it doesn't. I don't know enough to say.
Looks like everyone's done arguing here anyway. Thanks for the M4L tutorials link Tone, dig the music thought too.

Look what you did, he's now called you an asswipe. See what's happening here? Nicest guy on the forum. Look what you've done.
