full effect saturation when usen filter send/returns
full effect saturation when usen filter send/returns
I have my FX set up on my UC-33 via sends for each channel. I find when using the filter effect this way I cant get full cut off saturation as I would if the effect was placed directly onto the channel. Any advice on getting the right send/return balance would be apreciated.

I have and Its not gonna give you what you want.
If you put an effect on a send your still gonna get the Dry signal unless you choose Pre and turn the channel or track down at the same time.
It best to use sends for Delays and Reverbs IMO. Things that at most you want 50/50 split of the signal and the Fx. Mind you, you might have to turn the Track down a bit cause it's just like adding another track into the mix when you use a send but it's not gonna give you 100% effected signal.
You should leave the filter effect on the track itself.

You're right I tried it and I didn't fully understand what it did until I messed with it.
It'd be nice to have beat repeats/filters/etc on sends, anything where you want a 100% effected signal without adding volume.

Re: full effect saturation when usen filter send/returns
you can create a work around
drop a utility on each track. The knob that you map to the send knob you should map to the utility 0 to -40 so it turns the channel down when you turn the send UP.
make sure the send is set pre-fader and you'll be set!

I was going to do that with the volume slider, but then I'd be messin with my CC assigments and what not.
Thanks for the workaround, it doesn't seem like that much of a pain in the ass like some workarounds..

SEND TRICK!
I wasn't sure if you were aware of the Send Trick but here is how it works with a filter or beat repeat... although it does get messy.
First, what the send trick is. When you have a polar opposite waveform of the audio that you are currently playing, they cancel each other out "Phase Cancellation". If for instance you were to add a Utility to a Return Track and hit the Phz-L and Phz-R buttons, then send audio into that track, you would get a volume reduction (until you ended up with nothing).
Send Trick with Filter:
With a filter, your audio waveform becomes augmented. There are two ways you can approach this. You can have the phased Utility followed by a Filter (this would make the filter work in reverse
.. hp works as a lp, bp is notch, etc.) Or you can create a Rack with one channel containing Utility (phased) that cancels your original track out. And another channel in the rack with your filter fx. The lovely thing about this is that you can choose what parameters you want controlled by your macros.
The messy part is.. if you were to use the send trick on more than one Return.. you'd start getting your dry sound back.
Send Trick with Beat Repeat:
Same deal except you may want to play with your Mix effects. Once again you can either have a Utility before the Beat Repeat (would be best done using "Mix"), or you can have a Rack with one channel as Utility, the other as Beat Repeat (might work best with "Gate?".. I forget).
If this doesn't help you out, it is at least something to have in mind for some other projects
