Best way to sync Akai samples?

Post by file » Wed Nov 25, 2009 9:00 pm

Hi!

Finally I decided to import my Akai CD´s libraries, to be use in our music production.
Akai banks load just fine with Sampler instrument, but as you
know , back those days some CD´s didn´t had BPM information.

So I wonder, whats the best way to sync them with your LIVE songs?

Do you prefer to route the Sampler to an audio track, and then
make some warp editing, or just keep using MIDI?
What can you use to easy/fast calculate samples BPM?

It would be great to hear some tips and tricks from Live users.

Thanks!

Now its me thats asking, are you joking?!
How are you supposed to find the tempo of a sample with the TAP key?

Come on, TAP is good for when you have a music in your head,
and you want to start compose with some tempo reference,
but no way TAP have accuracy to find BPM sample tempos!
101 BPM is not the same as 101.50 BPM :)

file i think what lord toranaga was trying to say is tap tempo is a good and quick way to get a rough bpm count. By no means is it accurate enough, but it's a quick starting point.

For short loops, once you have the rough tempo make sure your clip has only one warp marker, if not right-click the first marker and "Warp from here (straight)". Then muck with the value in the "orig bpm" part of your clip until it matches the metronome. clips with alot of swing might need an extra warp marker or 2. That's about it really.

Warping clips can be a pain sometimes, but once you've done it enough times it becomes second nature. After a while you get good at warping without even listening to the clip. Alot of it can be done by eye.
