Right!! Opinions on Reaktor then...who uses it, what can it do, should I buy it, oc course |I shoudl, convince me, talk me out of it, what do you do with it, what will I do with it, who am I, who are you?

Buy it.

I still haven't learnt to use Reaktor as I should (it's a big learning curve and not a huge amount of information), however, there are plenty of ready made creations to be found in the user library, all for free.

I paid for Reaktor Spark, a Reaktor instrument created by Stephan Schmidt, NI head honcho and I can honestly say it's a stunningly useful synth and has found its way on to a lot of my music since. It's 2 Oscillators - Sin and Pulse are capable of such a huge range of sounds that you just won't believe your ears. It also has an almost acoustic quality to add to its brilliance.

Remember, that's just one synth. It's also a very capable Sampler and effects unit and more besides.

Downside, unless each instrument has been programmed by someone who knows how to get the most out of it, it can be a CPU hog, however, you'll not be so bothered when you hear the results.

I often have 3 or 4 instances of it going at any one time, along with other soft synths and strings of effects and although it pushes my core2duo 1.7 laptop to its limits, I have only had one crash caused by Reaktor in over 2 years of use. That was some time ago and I can't recall why. I found it in my log the other day which is the only reason why I remember this.

If you did want to waste half your life learning to build things from ground up, then it would be a most exciting tool.

I have a feeling Reaktor 6 will be out next year, so grab 5 now in order to get a cheap upgrade.

Well you could render them into Live, but if you were feeling brave (and there may be one alread) you could build something indside Reaktor into your synth that would record the audio.

Not sure if anyone has noticed but if you buy Reaktor 5 you can then upgrade to Komplete 6 for 299 euros.

Which will save you almost a 100 euros on Komplete.

I bought reaktor 5 secondhand for £90 not long ago.
IMHO it's worth every penny even if you never make a patch yourself. Some of the stuff in the user library is simply amazing.

There must be a catch somewhere??? Surely, a new version or something is going to announced in the new year?

I don't see a catch.. Reaktor 6 has been sort of announced for the first half of 2010..
besides that, Reaktor 5 could very well serve you for many years to come without having to upgrade to v.6
and 99,- gives you access to roughly 3000+ devices.. pure steal..

It comes with a built in recorder, it's in the view menu. Reaktor for 99€ is an absolute no brainer! Don't know if anyone noticed but they added Photone to the ensembles. It's in a different folder called IELibrary under common files for some reason.
