reaktor for 99 bucks, and then another 300 bucks for an upgrade to Komplete 6 from audio midi.
http://www.audiomidi.com/Komplete-6-Upgrade-P12696.aspx

This gets me something now and something for christmas and Komplete in general for 400 bucks. I need full Guitar Rig anyway, plus what my heart is set on is Kontakt.

I'm expecting some extra cash from christmas so hopefully i can scare up 300 bones by dec 31st. But i think i might buy the audio midi no brainer stuff too. I'm like donald trump over here!
sounds like a good plan to me

I actually was going to sell Reaktor recently because I felt I'd never make anything with it due to lack of time etc so it was just a glorified synth

but then I found out I couldn't sell it as I upgraded it from the Komplete 2 version, so I made a point of using it a bit and I was pretty damn glad I didn't lose it! Even if you do just use it as a synth/drum machine etc etc then it has some really cool stuff with it... and in the short term I would even say don't even worry about the User library - like you said you spend all the time working out what to do and there are just too many out there, I would focus more on getting to know the ones that came with it first

My vote would be Fabfilter Timeless 2 or Cytomics The Glue, although Vintage Warmer is cool. ive never tried Voxengo's Elephant and don't have a lot of experience w/ limiters, I'd rather have someone else master.

Sounds strange, but if I had to pick only one effect it would be Fabfilter Pro Q ftw. If you haven't tried this out, you really have to hear it to believe it, it's amazing. Nothing out there like it, just makes things sound good. It can do surgical but it really is that elusive thing, a musical eq. A godsend.
Happy shopping, new gear is always exciting.

Hi my man Ikea.

What Tarekih said - especially in Elephant 2, release time is the major factor. But also, you have to make sure that your mix is good and with a bit of headroom going into Elephant (or any limiter) to get best results - if it's already running a loud average RMS level and a lot of the signal is peaking up around -1dbFS to 0dBFS then graininess/distortion can be an issue - go back to your mix and drop every fader by 3-5dB (or a bit more even) and that will help in this scenario then re-export. How does the bass end sound (and how does it look on a spectograph) going into the limiter? Also did you dither the mix and what did you use to dither with (and which settings).

If you wanna PM me, you can send me a file and tell me what you want from the mastering (i.e. loud and punchy, a bit louder but not squashing it to f**k, balanced and smooth etc) and I will send you the file back with screenshots of what I used on Elephant to try and attain those qualities. No pressure or obligations ;)

Elephant 3 improves on Elephant 2 in a few ways, it has a couple of extra modes, 8x oversampling max instead of 4x oversampling max and more dithering options, not to mention the GUI change.

I would also highly recommend Cytomic's 'The Glue' for buss compression, in fact I reviewed that little baby a wee while ago, here's the link for anyone interested.

Leeds
Go on ya Legend, I'll take you up on that, I'll get a recent track thats typical of what I do up on rapidshare tonight, thanks man :D . I never leave much headroom going into elephant as I thought running into it fairly hot was the same as turning up the input dial, am i wrong here? I usually have very pronounced sub bass. I record my mixes as resampling into an empty audio channel as a 32 bit recording (I like to hear exactly what is going into the stereo file). I then open this file in sound forge and normalise to -0.5 db, save then open in a new Live set turn off warp and place a EQ followed by a BBE Sonic Maximiser (a recent addition) followed by
a rack I creted which allows me to do an A/B comparrison with the Elephant and Vintage Warmer with similar settings. I then usually push the input of either limiter to about +4 dbs. This usually ends up sounding subjectively 4 dbs quieter than most professional mastering jobs i compare with and my love of deep bass usually costs me my mid range which sounds tamer than other tracks in the mix. I don't like things to sound too compressed but what I'm after is the correct balance between mid range authority and not sounding shouty and undynamic. I'll PM you when I get a track up on RS.

do you have the Uhbiks from U-he? they're a pretty impressive sounding group of plug ins. they are a little bit more expensive, but will never go stale.

you mine as well flush the money down the toilet.

or you could buy the sonic maximizer plug in like some one else suggested.

i really dont understand why there isnt more people on here praising this plug in...

there is a ton of compressors and limiters, and other bull out there that does almost the same thing as any other compressor or limiter but, there is only one sonic maximizer plug in.

its like magic eq with two knobs.

^ 3 knobs, not 2.

Actually, scrap my idea of just buying the d82 Sonic Maximizer, why not get the Sonic Sweet instead? Just released.

50$ Upgrade for owner of the Sonic Maximiser, sweet!. Pity there isn't something to increase available headroom of my mastercard without incuring interest artifacts.

Tell me about it. I don't own any of them, only demoed the d82 and loved it. If it wasn't for the fact I just bought Alchemy I'd be all over it.
