Happy Synthsgiving From NI
Re: Happy Synthsgiving From NI
Whilst Reaktor download now after a weekend of 'Do I? Dont I? Can I afford it?'... Can someone tell me the total install size of Reaktor on OS X? It doesnt say on the NI website.

Re: Happy Synthsgiving From NI
Hmm... OK, I've got Alchemy, Operator, Sylenth 1, Analog, the Reason synths and a heap of CM "light" synths. Why do I need
either of the NI synths? I hear the samples - they're cool and all, and I'm feeling the urge, but I really am starting to
feel like a compulsive software eater.
Sell me on one of those NI synths.

Re: Happy Synthsgiving From NI
actually about reaktor ...
it has a huge library - some top line synths - reverbs etc etc respect!
BUT
how many reaktors you able to load without the need of a NASA computer?

screw you guys, I'm downloading Reaktor.
$100... respect where respect's due. this is a ridiculous deal. I'm just glad I don't have to hide a box of what I just bought.
73% done.

Re: Happy Synthsgiving From NI
For those interested in building in Reaktor, allow me to recommend a set of macros from the best of Reaktor.
If you log onto the U/L do a search for "rb macros set" (including the quotes).
This will show you a set of ensembles that were collected by a group of Reaktor enthusiasts comprising easy to use macros in a fairly large range of topics. These are specifically designed for beginners.
I am listed as the 'author' but I was just a group 'leader', the collection represents the work of hundreds of people.
There are other macro sets like that. You should also look into the 'Ampere' set - a Nord Modular G2 package.
There are too many to list more, the Top 100 list is a good start.

This is impossible to answer, it depends on how much work the thing is doing and how efficiently it was designed.IP wrote:actually about reaktor ...

As a rule of thumb, typically 6% to 10% CPU per ensemble is what I encounter on the MacBook Pro.
You can reduce the polyphony and/or sample rate if necessary for live performance.
It's fairly easy to run four or five synths, some effects and a full drum rack at 30% CPU.
But then again, one module with 128 voices and sophisticated processing may take over your total CPU.
Reaktor runs in one core only, but Live will spread VSTs among the cores.
Re: Happy Synthsgiving From NI
For you Reaktor buyers. If you are like me you may eventually download the entire user library. It will take you many months to do this and you will end up with an embarassment of riches and not enough time to look over everything. A full set of the User Library will probably eat up about 30 GB - not too big compared to sample libraries.
Here is what I would recommend - start with the things in the all-time Top 100 that appeal to you. Then look at the 50 best newest. These will give you an idea of what each author's style is like.
Then sort through the library in various ways - by topic, by rating, author, etc.
The number of comments may be the best way to rank them.
I'd suggest a number of my favorites, but I think my taste is towards the abstract and extreme.
It is hard to recommend even a short list of outstanding creators:
Herw, rachMiel, Chet Singer, Chris List, lazyfish, program child, James Walker-Hall, Dieter Zobel, Mike Daliot... I left out too many...
EDIT: start with the 'First Steps...' tutorial in the Operation Manual page 61.

Re: Happy Synthsgiving From NI
Oh yes, another Reaktor post.
You need to run Reaktor once in standalone mode first-time. Don't start it up as a VST the first time.
This is a common problem. I think this is true for all the NI software.

Re: Happy Synthsgiving From NI
Interesting that you mention it cause now with ACE I will likely take Massive off my computer. Massive is a fine synth though I never truly clicked with it. I did find some uses for it but it just did not speak to me sound-wise... and now ACE (IMO) walks all over it as far as sound quality. And even with the special Massive price, ACE is still cheaper.andydes wrote:Reaktor would be too much for me. I'd never get any music done. Although now weighing up Massive against U-He's new ACE synth. hmmm....
Re: Happy Synthsgiving From NI
Sorry, I would likely talk you out of it. I find the Absynth GUI clumsy. It is a fine synth and the GUI aint bad, but I have not used it enough to get fast at it and so I end up hardly using it at all (except to launch from time to time, marvel at the great soundscapes, and close it). I just find NI synths have a sound that does not quite do it for me. There is some residual harshness or something to the NI sound.Tone Deft wrote:someone talk me into getting Absynth.
I think FM8 is a bit harsh sounding for what I like to do, I don't do those large Prodigy-esque leads.
I've heard lots of mediocre reviews of Massive and it seems to be on sale often.
Reaktor at $100 would be great but I'm not learning that and max4Live at the same time.
That said, it really is a good synth, but for well over a year, it has not found its way into use so for me it is not effective. I have wanted to like Absynth but the NI stuff just does not speak to me.
I purchased FM8, Massive and Absynth as a bundle at an absurdly cheap price. Massive I am taking off my computer, Absynth I suppose I will keep for now. FM8 is the only one I have used much of the 3.

Re: Happy Synthsgiving From NI
i did think everything through and after demoing i only ended up liking massive and fm8 and still haven't decided about reaktor either, which in the end i probably wont be picking it up. So buying and spending money on a shit ton of stuff i didn't want wasn't the way to go.Angstrom wrote:Bleep Blop Ima Robot wrote:grabbed massive, my friend grabbed fm8, now im thinking about grabbing reaktor for the price.
whoa whoa whoa
sorry to say you might have done this the wrong way around.
Reaktor = $99
upgrade from Reaktor5 to Komplete 6 - $339 !
that way you get Reaktor, Kontakt, Massive, FM8, Battery, Absynth and Guitar Rig for just a little over the price you would be paying for only the 3 synths. Kontakt and Battery come with a metric fuckton of samples of course.

Bumping my own question again, anybody got a clue 'bout this?
#1thelark wrote:By any chance, do you know if it's possible to run NI products registered to different accounts on the same machine? I'd love to get Reaktor and Absynth for 198$/130€ instead of just Reaktor alone for €99. But I doubt I could use them on my machine together with my other NI products... I'd love to get both but I don't want to get in trouble either.
Any hints?
