M-Audio Mac OSX 10.3.8 FW Drivers at last...
Sorry for the dumb question, but if i DO decide to try the new drivers, how do i uninstall the old ones? do i have to wipe evrything "m-audio" from my mac? do i need to reinstall the soundcard itself? As you can see, I'm new to all this and as the system works fine for me im scared of screwing it all up.
cheers

the new drivers didn't work on my ibook at all. didn't go through the initialization sequence on start-up (where the unit's lights flash thru in sequence) and made no sound thereafter. also seemed to muck up the external spdif sync...all my synced midi devices were playing with serious timing fluctuations.
has anyone had a little better luck with the new drivers, or are they still jacking up?
peace,
rahlo

you should download the driver of the version you are using now first. this driver comes with unistall and install. use the uninstall. then after uninstalling the driver download the new one(1.4.3) and proced to install.dazzer wrote:Sorry for the dumb question, but if i DO decide to try the new drivers, how do i uninstall the old ones? do i have to wipe evrything "m-audio" from my mac? do i need to reinstall the soundcard itself? Works for me
No problems here! Running OS 10.3.8 with the M-Audio FW 410 (1.4.3) and it seems all good to me. I have an iMac g5 17" 1.8 GHz w/ 1 Gb RAM. Didn't have any M-Audio drivers installed prior to these ones.rahlo wrote:has anyone had a little better luck with the new drivers, or are they still jacking up?

Re: Works for me
the new driver for osx sucks....i still cant use my lacie d2 ext hd with firewire 800. it glitches and drops the sound...and yes, i know the problem is the 410. after using the internal sound card from my powerbook with fw 800 i didnt have any problem with audio . firewire 410 also disconects a lot from the computer when u put it in sleep mode. the midi from 410 cant be used with mackie control either

Re: Works for me
Hmm,,, Interesting because I have exactly the same computer configuration, but instead of 410 I use FW Audiophile and Yes as I mentioned in my two previous posts the new driver works beautifully for me as well ie; no drop-outs, low latency and low CPU consumption...frahnque wrote:No problems here! I tried out the new driver to see if my fw1814 would work better (it has always been very delicate, mysteriously winding up in storms of glitches/artifacts, for no apparent reason.
Now, not only does the driver not work, but I can't get the old one to reinstall.
If anyone has any suggestions (other than hock it on Ebay) I would appreciate it.

I wasted 45 minutes on tech support today. Neither of the two latest drivers (10.4.1.d or 10.4.3.d) worked at all. I was told that my fw 1814 was probably broken, and that I should try it on another computer to confirm it. Instead, I dug around and found 10.2.4.d on their website. It works again. Whoa boy...
The only thing positive I can say about the fw1814 is that it came bundled with Live 2.0 Delta.

I installed the new ozonic drivers and not only got no sound out of the ozonic, but the usb driver for my mpd 16 controller didn't work anymore, no matter what I tried.
Going back to the old one for now, even though the latency is soooo high.

I'm in the middle of a complete overhaul of my system (writing zeros, reinstalling os x, optimizing for audio as much as i can, reinstalling m-audio drivers, reinstalling Live 4, endlessly repairing permissions).
I'm using AdamJay's performance test file to test my system for a before and after look at what I've found.
On my non-optimized setup, I could only run the oldest drivers for my audiophile under Live 4.1 and Mac OS 10.3.8. The new ones worked at first, but when I opened up more of my older Live sets, they proved to do nothing more than snap, crackle, and pop.
I'll post back a full-detailed post about my findings as soon as I can.
