Is there a lack of moderation in the General forum?

Discuss music production with Ableton Live.

Is there a lack of moderation on the Ableton Forums?

Yes, I think the moderators should be a bit stricter.

timothyallan wrote:Why don't you just resist the urge to click those threads? It's really quite simple.

Most people here, like myself, enjoy reading a lot of the off topic shit that flies around here because we understand that it's all in good fun and generally goes along with our distorted sense of humor.

It's not like the posts are titled "How to tell if I'm recording 24bits through my ADAT lightpipe instead of 16" but when you open it, the content is "OHHHH I just jizzed on my partner!!!". The titles are usually a gateway to what content is inside the thread. If you just want to read audio stuff, then only click the links that relate (or look like they might) relate to audio.

I've taken it upon myself to bold the important bits just because I wanted to summarize my points.
Quoting myself just to help things out a little more. Here is a real life situation happening RIGHT NOW!! Now, look at these two posts, and see which one you might find offensive and which one might have audio related information in it?

Explain VBR mp3's please. - http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=130930

OR

Have you ever jizzed on a partner whilst they were asleep? http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=130877

Stop hating on modemaster just for asking for an opinion on the subject.
Thankyou Grappadura.

I would like to point out that I am not asking for these posts to be deleted or have anyone banned for posting such things, I merely think this is not appropriate for the general forum and as such the moderators could move these posts to a different area or at least warn people regarding their conduct here.

This is a PUBLIC forum, not some schoolyard circle jerk.
WTF is wrong with you! it's all about the circle jerk. Hell man, you're getting off too!!

You are still in this thread not reading some Live info. You're wasting your own time with a complaint and about ready to drop a load!

I for one am completely entertained

Wake up and smell the scrotum dude. Yer in a bar on the corner. Which is still public.

like you said "It's a public forum", so get over yourself and just ignore the threads you don't like, just like you ignore people you don't like in the real world.

do you ask police to remove a smelly dude sitting next to you on the bench for talking about hookers?
no you don't.

I realised before posting that this wouldn't go down well with alot of people. That's still no reason to not voice a concern over something that bothers me.

Join a porn forum if you want to talk about jizzing over your partner.
By the same logic go somewhere else if you dont like it here. This board has been 99% self moderated besides three or so incidents in the 2 years ive been here and has largely been a few notches up the offensive scale than it is now. I can understand if you were offended. What I dont understand is you being offended by the title and THEN READING THE THREAD. I also dont understand people coming into any type of gathering of people and automatically calling for change pretty much the day they get there. There is a ton of useful info on this board in their easily found places. the general forum is the off topic forum here if you want only music related stuff there are music only sub-forums here. I concede the titles of the threads should be a little less offensive while still letting people know whats going on inside. as for people still opening the threads and being pissed...well no one here is your mommy or responsible for your actions.

while i don't really care what gets posted.. having an off topic area would be nice. simply so i can read less pages of topics to get to the relevant posts.

i don't spend too much time talking OT on forums.. much rather spend face time with some friends talking about who i've jizzed on while sleeping than waste time sitting alone in front of a computer accomplishing nothing.

i think a lot of people took this topic the wrong way. say a potential live user tried out the demo, and came to the forums to get some info/help/whatever.. what do you think their first impression of this company would be given the posts contained in the general area? anyone coming from a professional background would likely assume the forum is filled with immature children given the content posted. again.. i don't care.. but wouldn't want this to be the public face of my company that's for sure.

au contraire mon frair

I'm a 48 year old, 20 year music production vet and worked with the best. When I came to this forum I was very much relieved to find it as is. Any noob showing up might feel the same, right? Childish as things may seem, the banter is top notch with the best comedy coming from the brightest cats. Friends hang-out here, steam gets released, peeps post drunk etc. Par for the course. Instead of changing an established general category, campaign for an on-topic one.
